Walk us through exactly how that ponzi scheme works ...

(1.) In exchange for money, I get a street-legal car fueled by the public power grid that has more performance than most every car on the road.

Ok now you fill in Ponzi part.
Careful with the "performance" word and Tesla Gruss. Yes certain models can be fast in a straight line for a couple of runs but that's it.

Aren't they pigs on a track and a big letdown with shitty batteries and limp-mode?

Tesla's aren't performance cars. They are moving appliances with tech that dazzles the uniformed non enthusiast car buyer.

100%. I've driven some base F30s as loaners. They really suck

BMW is making those cars for the same buyer stated above.

sort of, but I agree, they're not track cars ... the point was, through, a Tesla is a kick ass freeway car powered by the electrical grid - that's pretty far from a Ponzi scheme.

and I'll add two things ...

(1.) I mentioned Tesla is an energy (and software) company, not a car company ... well that isn't much different from Honda: an engine company that sold cars, lawn mowers, etc to sell more engines ... but in this case it'll revolutionize the energy market. Think of a time when you mine all of the energy you need and sell the rest ... the internet of energy sales enabled by Tesla, much like the internet was enabled by Cisco and Microsoft. Unbundle and enable.

(2.) Tesla is disintermediating dealers and it's beautiful. Consumers get shafted because manufacturers in many industries consider the dealer as their customer - the end user ultimately gets an inferior selection of products. While the internet has disrupted, or begun disrupting, this model in many industries, not auto sales. Until Tesla. Think of world where you buy directly from BMW - no dealer overhead, no paying for showrooms, no paying for dealer networks ... and a product built for what consumers want rather than dealers.

Go Tesla is all I have to say.

do you think the stock was happy with the layoffs, or the fact that musk bought 25 million worth of it?

Somehow, we agree 100%... i also don't think the typical enthusiast car buyer is the target for Tesla... this is for people that view a car as merely a form of transport that value tech and cool new features... same crowd as the apple watch crowd etc etc... definitely not me, but I i understand why people like Tesla... but the question becomes; what if a real car company that actually knows about cars like BMW builds fully electric and autonomous cars? At this point, it's solely a race of time.

Exactly...

at this point a potential Model S buyer has an M5 as an option for a similar price... the only person I can think of buying the Model S is the guy who just has to have the newest tech... everyone else will easily go for the M5...

I see things differently. I believe the person choosing the Model S over a M5 most likely prefers the virtue signal the EV delivers; rather than the performance message the M5 delivers.

Have you driven a Tesla, or is this just what you have heard? By the way, being a track car isn't the end all be all for a vehicle.

Was driving a friends' ModelX the other day, and I was FLOORED at how much acceleration it has.

The problem with test-driving a Tesla, you'd wanna buy it and dump your current car as soon as you humanly can

It doesnít compete with a S class. It should be competition for something a lot lower in quality for sure.

S class took sales hit because of model s. So as other big boys.
Sounds like direct competition to me.
I'm ok with the level of luxury in my X
Doesn't feel like a big difference from 2012 X6M

Napa leather everywhere
Seats are heated and cooled.
Fair amount of adjustments.
Helicopter style windshield.
Auto pilot.

Sales hit in what universe?

The Tesla feels cheap. All of it. Having a lot of tech doesnít make it upscale. I watch sales arenít impacting Omega and Rolex, sorry.
