Two months has gone by, it sounds like BS story to me. They don’t haven’t received any allocations and you should speak to other dealers.

Did you get a production number from them already? Those don't have to wait for the factory, but it would mean your dealer doesn't have an allocation.

GoKart10, I don't know who you are working with but there are 4 or 5 BMW dealers in the DC area. This dealer is jerking you around and you should start making calls to the others in your area.

Perhaps you should contact a broker. RigaTony1982 has posted about his two successful transactions using brokers and was extremely pleased with the outcome.

I know a NorCal dealer has an allocation that isn't spoken for. Nice place to visit and take it on a road trip home. PM me for details.

Ordered Valentine's Day, Order Accepted notice from BMW about two weeks later. Now at port waiting ship assignment. Leave it to you to decide what your dealer is doing.

Thanks guys. These clowns told me that they got an allocation last month, and I am next in line. My memory is kinda fading but I thought I was first in line. I hope they are not playing "pay to play" allocation game and giving the first one to the markups.

I did call several dealers in the DC area and none have allocations.

Perhaps it’s time for you to expand your search area? There’s nothing like a good road trip when you are taking your brand new car home!

Also returning to my earlier post, you should contact a broker and see what they can offer to you.

I’m not a dealer so have no dog in the fight. Everything you’ve written so far seems like typical dealer business and not out of line. I wouldn’t call them clowns. If you give a deposit you then have to wait for the order to be received. Then you will have to wait again for it to go into production. The timing for those is completely different from buyer to buyer. We are lucky that only 1-2 people seem to be in line at each BMW dealer. Go try to buy a Lambo or Ferrari, you’ll be sitting in a line for years.

Don’t forget that some dealers haven’t received any allocations and are simply accepting deposits which isn’t fair to the customer. 👎🏻

True on allocations. For deposits that is not unusual. Again, Lambo dealers sit on deposits for years before an allocation hits. They’re not going to wait for an allocation and then collect a deposit. And those are $25-50k! That means they’d have to do some extra work tracking down those who have money. You know these guys do as little as possible!!

I hear you loud and clear but we are dealing with a BMW Z4 where the annual production is much larger than Lamborghini or Ferrari. The larger volume dealers with clout will definitely receive more allocations for a 6MT than some of the smaller ones. 😉

On deposits. Have never been asked for one & have only bought one car off the floor Z4.

Some salespeople think they are locking you in when they ask for a deposit.

Yeah its total BS as being binding, but think about the dealers bank account with all those deposits sitting there in interest bearing accounts.

I have seen it all from salespeople.

When we were car shopping for my wife I had an idiot at the Mercedes dealer in Ft. Lauderdale tell us he wouldn’t quote me a price unless she went for a test drive even though I had told him that she had already been in the car and we just wanted his best price.

He must have asked me 10 times if I was buying a car “today” after I had previously said we were making a decision that week.

Finally he refused to give me a copy of the pricing printout unless we were buying today.

My wife had to drag me out of the showroom as we almost exchanged blows.

You can’t make this type of stuff up! 💩

We waited 16 months for my wife's Ferrari Portofino M with a $10k deposit. Ferrari can build 11,000 cars a year, but has orders for 33,000. I am trying to be patient about my Z4 6MT order . . . .

Exactly. My Huracan wait was right at 12 months and was lucky to have only 5 people ahead of me in 2021 and due to some constraints I jumped one of them. They were sitting on $40k during that wait because I gave them my trade on day 1. The H is great but I need a convertible stick to go with it so can’t wait for the Z4!!
