I let a valet park my car. :(

My wife and I went to a nice restaurant Saturday evening and it was mandatory valet parking.

When we were done eating, I gave the valet guy my ticket and he went to go get the car. Well, the curbs were high and I guess he wasn't used to the low clearance. My wife and I both saw him scratch the front left bumper.

When confronted, he forgot his English skills and it turned into a huge mess. The estimate, as you can see from the attachment is for over $2,900 from the dealership and it does not include the additional $800 to reapply the Xpel Stealth wrap for the front bumper.

To top it off, the dealership is booked until the last week of December for auto body repair.

I think it will take this long anyway for the insurance companies to fight it out.

Holy crap... 2,933 bucks to repair that scratch???? That seems excessive. It was about 4-5k to repair the damage done in a side swipe accident in Alpine white which dented door, damaged rocker panel, wheel and rear fender.

I'm so sorry this happened to you and is a reason why I do not let others drive my car. no valet.. .barely my wife.

I was told that due to the park aid sensor, drive aid sensor, and parking sensor that they would need to replace the entire bumper. And then calibrate them.

I'm really sorry to see this. That valet ought to be fired.

Let's all take this as a solemn reminder to never let someone who you don't fully trust drive your car.

Firing the valet won’t really solve the problem. Suing the restaurant might get their attention though. I’d at least consider it given that valet parking is often obligatory so they can pack in as many customers as possible. IANAL, but I don’t see how they can claim to have no duty of care when your personal property must be turned over to them in order for you to use their establishment.

I would want an explanation for what the sensors have to do with the repair and why they can't just repair the existing bumper. It does not appear the sensors are damaged. Thinking out loud: are there any error codes suggesting sensor damage? Can they not mask over the sensors when performing the repair? Are they unable to blend the frozen gray paint with the rest of the bumper?

I imagine the labor required to move existing sensors from the damaged bumper to the new one is part of the cost estimate - either the body or mechanical labor charge, I'd guess. $1200 for a molded bumper cover/spoiler assembly without any electronics doesn't seem particularly steep to me anyway.

Everything I've read says you can only fix damage to frozen paint by respraying the entire panel. Probably because it's not possible to blend by sanding and then shooting clear over it.

I rarely ever go to a restaurant with my Z. I got a 12 year old too. Unless he is left behind or I'm on a client/vendor business lunch/dinner, it's very very rare we don't take the family car.

Come to think of it, we only take it to brunch and one dinner restaurant. Both have spots away from everyone else. Most of the time we take the family car, which is good because when we did head into the city back in January someone hit us in the tesla. When we take the three kids we have no choice. And since I lowered the car, I sometimes get out before I pull up in a spot.

Ouch!!. My granddaughter dinged her Mazda CX5 front valance. It had to be replaced & painted. Was about $450 to do at the dealers shop.

Had some sensors in it not sure how they were handled, but am guessing they were just swapped into the new part.

thank you for sharing the repair bill for you vehicle.

The valet company contacted me today and I emailed them pictures and the repair estimate. We will see what they say...

Just remember, with a claim like this they will want to send your car to a shop of their choosing where they will get more favorable pricing. Always bring the car to your own body shop where you trust the quality of their work, not one of theirs!
