Very hopeful they get the G87 right, the spy pics look promising but more importantly for enthusiasts it needs to be a better drivers car than the F87 which will be hard to beat.

I tend to agree. But also sad this list of basic qualifications make it BMW's best car. How the mighty have fallen.

I'm pumped on the rear 3/4 shot.
It also looks like the hood has some extra style points but I can't really tell

Recently the X2 also got this feature as a change for the sake of change ("For true distinction, the BMW emblem has been repositioned next to the Hofmeister kink on the C pillar. Just another case of breaking the rules.").

Just remember that it is scheduled to go into production in December 2022. Still a long road ahead to a final version.

If this turns out like the CSL Hommage R then you can have my order deposit now.
That would make too much sense from this current design team, but hot damn if they did 🤞🏻

The mere fact that DCT is not offered on the new M3/M4 makes that pretty clear. Same is true for the floating rear calipers and electronic e-brake. G87 will also gain a few hundred pounds and will also be bigger, the pictures posted are pretty obvious that it has grown tremendously.

This is still such an early mule that anything can happen. They can just integrate it into the grille like in the G8x. I believe Scott26 said the M2 will have a different/taller grille than the 2er that leaked. But it will not be as extreme as the G8x.

I think 1&2 series models are still offered with Magna DCT (which is admittedly different from longitudinally mounted M2s).. I suspect that if M4 CS and special models are to get DCT, and they should, I wouldn't write them off just yet... unless M doesn't give a shit about their existing customer base who like the characteristic of M-DCT just like PDK which has a huge following.

You already know that the 4 door 2 series is FWD based. So, why would they do a 4 door M2 based on the RWD chassis?
The only way you are getting a 4 door version of this M2 is if you build it yourself.
As I literally said in my post that you replied to, I don't think they will make it.

Thank you, just so thank you, for two things: It doesn't seem massively bigger, and it doesn't have this front end:

How big do these cars really need to be. The 2-series is a comfortable enough size, it doesn't feel tight like a Cayman from inside. Why make it larger?

Ah, thinking out loud. Some of us do that from time to time. The only problem with that is when we actually put what we were thinking in motion, like Big Beaver Teeth Grilles.

The M2 is the last true drivers car BMW make & it's barely clinging on to that, for gods sake focus on what makes it the success it is, which is the dynamics. Not the bloody grill or entertainment system or headlight/tail light design or other such trivial rubbish.
I've no doubt the looks & inclusions will be just fine, the major concerns must be changes to what makes the M2 an M2 such as additional mass, drivetrain options, steering feel etc. If you can't see that your looking at the wrong car.
What, I can't want traction from my 500hp small-ish coupe? Especially considering roads are wet more than 50% of the year where I live. Yeah I want xDrive. I gave up on spinning RWD a long time ago and now blitz straight line and sweepers no matter the conditions in my two M-diff equipped xDrive cars. BMW does the best performance AWD in their M cars. If they can make it optional on the M4 I think they could do it on the M2.

I had the first M235i in xDrive which was the first good 30/70 xDrive setup without a raised suspension. Loved that car except wanted more of the M dna.
