My ‘25 M40 MT order is in!

Spoke to my SA today - my order has been accepted and will be built during week 12 production. San Remo Green with Cognac. Replacing my 2019 Milano Blue 3.0. Should be an early May delivery. SA said their dealer only got 24 slots for the entire 25 Z4 production run. Expect others are getting similar calls this week about ordering.

24 slots for just the MT M40i or 24 slots for both the MT and the automatic in the 30i and M40i combined for the entire 25 production run?

For all M40 MT production

Just for the manual…didn’t seem like a lot to me. This is a huge BMW store.

Allocations can change during the year and if it is a big dealer they usually get first dibs. Also dealers can swap cars with other dealers that might not be able to sell their entire allocation.

BMW NA said that this was not going to be a limited run and that they would build as many as needed this year.

Translation… who knows. The auto industry is in turmoil right now.

On the bright side, I got our production number today. Also going with SM Green over Cognac.

24 slots for the total year makes sense to me.

There's 350 BMW dealerships in the US from what I can find. They sold 1,883 Z4s in 2023. That's about 6 per dealer. Obviously some dealers sell more volume and Z4's sell better in certain locations, so adjust from there.

The largest dealer volume-wise around me in Chicago has zero on the lot right now, and hasn't had one in months.

Considering the terrible winters you experience is Chicago a city where you would expect to see many convertibles (any make/ model) on the road? Would a dealer even bring a Z4 into their own inventory to sell before early Spring?

When I was looking for a Z4 (last spring) there were none on any lot in Chicago or Milwaukee or surrounding areas. There was one in Madison, Wisconsin. That was the only Z4 I saw in any area BMW dealer inventory for about 3 months, when I stopped looking. I'd be willing to bet the Chicago BMW dealers have sold less than 20 Z4 models since 2019 and Milwaukee dealers have sold less than 5.

This is not a convertible market. If you see a convertible it's most likely a Mustang or Miata. Which probably explains why some guy asked me if my Z4 was a Miata.

Getting off topic, but I see a decent amount of convertibles in Chicago, just not the Z4.

Grats! I randomly just saw you on Reddit, and guessing you were one of the two folks ahead of me at ‘our’ dealer. Now I’m going to have to go Thundernight in lieu of SanRemo just to cause confusion during delivery, and around town, hah! (Kidding, we’re not going in until this Sat to spec & place our deposit, so we won’t be in their first batch anyway).

Though now I’m sad, with the rapid pace folks are starting to post, we likely won’t be able to take advantage of the CCA rebate, (didn’t join until Jan 2nd after learning of it, so membership shows start of our three-year term as 2/1/24). Oh well, such is life sometimes. I’ll forget all about that as I drive off the lot

I’ve had this same conversation with my dealer and our winters are way worse than Chicago. They said they sell the most convertibles in February/march. The reason is because we’ll get the odd nice-ish day and someone will go out and buy one in anticipation of spring. Very few get sold in the summer/fall in comparison.

I plan to place my order next December for a march/april delivery

Is the manual available for all colors? When will the US configurator be available, any idea?

All colors yes. No idea on the config going live.

Once a VIN is assigned you can then track via the app too, is that correct? (We downloaded it & played around with the demo vehicles, so impressed compared to what Acura provides, lol).

This is what my dealer sent me, to order a manual do you need to add ZED package or just 2MA Manual transmission? Thats why i want to play with the configurator

ZED package includes 2MA. It's my understanding that is required for the manual (meaning you can't just order the manual without ZED).

My dealer still hasn't figured out how to add Alcantara (HC) to my build. 😭

You can track on the website once you get a production number.
