Supra Replacement Parts

So I was at BMW today to replace a torn seal and they wanted $100 for it and it's coming from Germany. The same seal for the supra is $50 and available in the United States. Curious if anyone else has gone the route of using the same parts, but with Toyota part numbers and purchased from Toyota.

The usual “brand” tax. Have seen some absurd mark ups on shared hardware over the years.

are the doorsills the same shape? I was looking to customize those, but I'm having a hard time finding stuff for the G29, I might have a little more luck with the supra parts if that's the case

Rubber/plastic is same - that's why it has so many part nos. on the back. Have been told wrap won't adhere to the plastic and the rubber edging makes painting problematic. Please share if you pull something off. Would like to improve upon wrap over ///M40i:

i'll do some investigating over the weekend, i know there are carbon covers for the supra that fit over the rubber. but it would be cool to have the entire inlay with custom text or something

It might be possible to flip the inlay and use the back as a blank canvas. The plastic is what I most want to change.

if it's only the plastic, something like this could be all you need.

If you do select this product take note of the comment in the description section, "We have 2 clear coat finish options(Gloss or Matte)."

I'd like the whole thing to be more uniform, probably something close to the inlay color and maybe without the inlay.

Oh yeah that would also be nice

I want mine fully gloss black to match the other accents on the car,and then a custom inlay if i can find one, or all in one piece if it exists.

I asked in the paintshop, but the plastic around the inlay is not paintable.

I only tried one shop. Was hoping you'd get a different answer. It does seem like removing and replacing the rubber or taping it off neatly enough for a good result would be challenging.

I considered black gloss too. Do you think any film/wrap can work?

Maybe you want to buy a Supra sill to experiment? #4 in the parts diagram I posted makes me think BMW is stamped underneath the inlay and the sill is attractive without it. A tech told me they sometimes pop off and seemed to think the inlays should be easy to remove. Also possibly possible to clean off adhesive, flip over, etch or cover with something custom and replace?

The design underneath is somewhat visible through the wrap over my inlays. It could probably be covered better. Maybe just do a printed wrap on top?

i think the texture would come through with wrapping film on the rubber.I also don't know if it would stick for a long time. On the inlay part it should be fine.

If its not too expensive, indeed it may be worth a try with the supra parts

Flipping them over and using that as a starting point is a cool idea too.

*edit*
Maybe something like this but then painted / wrapped

Just an update from my original post, I purchased a new seal from Toyota, and it came exactly as a BMW part

I saved myself 60$ in the process. So keep in mind any cheaper 'toyota' replacement parts still come from BMW factory with BMW stamping

Was looking at pics with quarzsilber trim near the displays. Almost positive that's underneath all of the different sill overlays.
