We were based in one location. But the shuttled out to different locations on 2 different days. Some loops, some point to point and van rides back, sometimes we went out in a van and rode back to the B&B.

It was better than expected, from accommodations, to food, to company, to the riding... all of it. One of our guides was a genuine pro Italian racer. At all of 17 years of age, he crushed us all day, everyday. haha

Sounds like it was a great trip. The Strava pics were cool. I was looking at a river cruise where they do a daily ride from each port. Doesn't work so well for us, though, because Wifey doesn't ride.

Hit 4K miles for the year today. My goal is 5K. I should make that easily. Down 85lbs since I started riding. I'd like to drop another 15 or so.

Just walking. Although I'm going to join the adult fitness program at the university this winter and start doing some core and upper body work. I need to build back some muscle mass that I've lost since I became a desk jockey.

That's awesome Mark! Good idea about getting some core and upper body work added to the routine. Stoked you've stuck with it!

Lotta credit to you, Mr. T. Your advice and encouragement when I was starting out was a huge help. I'm grateful.

Did my first 50 mile ride today. I don't know how folks do century rides. My legs are trashed.

This will sound unbelievable. But. If you can do 50 you can do 100.

Oh and congratulations! That’s a real milestone.

Self supported 50? There is a big difference between a self supported ride and a supported ride. Having designated stops where you eat and drink helps more than you think. It can be done on your own, but it takes a lot of discipline to take on enough food and water.

Great job! Keep it up and you will go further than you ever imagined. I too once thought a century was just crazy. Last year some friends and I did a double century in a day (STP).

Yeah, the 50 was self supported. Two large (25oz) water bottles and couple of honey waffles, plus a big carb breakfast. I didn't come close to zonking. Had plenty of energy left and it was pretty chilly, so heat wasn't an issue. It was mainly just my legs that wore out. The northern part of the ride is mostly flat. The southern part had all the elevation. Plus the wind picked up out of the south at the halfway mark just as I started an 11 mile southbound run. Between the wind and the hills, my legs worked a lot harder in the second half of the ride. Still, I'm fine today and could go out and knock out 25, which I might do later.

Today's ride (on Zwift) put me at 5303 miles for the year. 303 miles over my goal. Down 82lbs since I started riding. About 30lbs of that weight loss was in 2018. This year I plan on incorporating a rowing regimen into my schedule, so I may not get as much time on the bike. We'll see.

Avid cyclist in the DC metro area here. I raced in my younger years, but I just ride for fun now. I'm just getting back on after a 3 year hiatus due to injury. Prior to that I was logging 5-6K miles a year. I have a long way to go to regain fitness... Just two road bikes to my name now: a Dave Kirk tourer and a Gualzetti long/low torture machine that's out for a repaint now.

Cool. We should organize a drive and ride or something. There are really good roads in Loudoun and rural MD. Not now, though! An hour tooling around on Zwift is enough to kick my butt.
