severe water ingress

Hey all,
Long time lurker first time poster.

About three weeks ago I had my windscreen replaced by autoglass after getting a huge stone chip in the windscreen. Ive driven it a couple of times since then but its mostly been on the drive.

I noticed that it was very damp inside and there was condensation on the inside of the windscreen. Today when pulling my passenger seat forward, i noticed a huge amount of water. As per the pictures there was a lot on the carpet.

So far autoglass have been good and have asked for me to take the car back in to check to see if the windscreen is fixed properly and offered a valet if it wasn't due to the amount of water. I have noticed that the strip that went across the too of the windscreen is no longer there but that could be due to autoglass sealing the windscreen in a way that doesn't require it 🤷🏼‍♂️

My question is if the windscreen is attached correctly, what else could it be causing this as its a huge issue.

pictures (excuse the colour of the water, i clearly need to clean my carpets more &#128556

Somewhere I read that parking on an incline, nose up I believe, can cause this if rain occurs.

It has to has to have been installed incorrectly. The windscreen should not be left like that I don't think. Best of luck

Yeah, i recon its insalled incorrectly too, can be the only logical reason.

Can someone do me a huge favour and take a photo of the top of their winscreen to show that there should be a seal along the top please? Ive had a look online and am really struggling to get a close up of the A pillar/ across the top front of the windscreen.

Just trying to get all my ducks in a row before they look at it again and tell me there was never a rubber seal there. TIA

The seal is the glass to frame. The top rubber strip is for wind noise and appearance

H, we have exactly the same issue with our G29 water collects in the drivers side (Uk car so right side) behind the seat and slightly damp in the drivers foot well. Your post made us think and yes we had to have our windscreen changed and don’t remember this happening before, did you find the issue and resolve it if so any direction l/advice would be fantastic thanks in advance

Could your drains have been clogged up somehow? Is there noticeable water dampness on the forward portion of carpet?

If it’s only wet in back, that makes me think water is coming from the back side somewhere.
Not sure how to check the drains but maybe someone else may know.

If this hasn’t happened before, it would seem a huge coincidence that water ingress occurs immediately after having the windscreen replaced. Hard to think that the two aren’t connected.

IMHO, this isn’t a coincidence and the culprit is obvious. 😡

It is only wet behind the driver seat, so I suspect it’s not the windscreen and could be the drain, thanks for providing the picture I will see if using some thin tubing and a vacuum I can clear it out

For clarification to my post above, parking on an incline nose up may cause water to run out of the bottom of the door when opened (after rain or car wash) but the water does not escape inside the car.

Attached is a service bulletin regarding the issue.

Thanks Stan great to see this, the dealership had already done this to my car. I will update if we are successful with the roof drains, car was vacuumed to get out as much water as possible and currently has a dehumidifier running in it which is drying it out nicely thanks all

Years ago, in a Miata, a passenger stepped into my car, sloshing sounds ensued, and I was found to have a clogged AC drain (blew air into the drain on underside of car, water flew out). Water had been backing up, without any apparent notice by me, to the point that I had standing water in the passenger floorboard. I was shocked at how much water was sloshing around, but wasn't heard with the top down (top always down). Anyhow, looking forward to seeing the cause / fix of your issue.

So this water issue happened to my G29 too. And it's worse than it looks. A wet carpet is just the tip of the iceberg because the underside of the carpet is VERY thick foam which gets totally waterlogged and contains gallons of water. I found that the root cause was the rear drainage pipe (#3 in the picture a few posts up) which gets blocked with silt. Once a month, I retract the top 3/4 down and use a straw attached to a vacuum cleaner to suction the dirt from the top of the pipe.

So it turns out i didnt provide an update on this and people are still commenting. Anyways update time….

Took the car back to autoglass abd they replaced the screen and confirmed no faults with their work so i booked it into BMW. It turns out I had a clogged drain. BMW fixed the leak and replaced all upholstery in the vehicle for me foc after the dealer argued with BMW as they said it was the only way to stop it going mouldy as it was so wet. If I had to pay out of pocket it would have been about 2k
