I know this must be a stupid question, but why are the 5-60 rolling start times 1 second longer than 0-60 [which I assume include a 1-foot rolling start]?

Thanks
Duncan
My guess is that is due to starting off in a lower rpm and it taking a little longer to get into the engines powerband.
From stop with higher revs once traction is obtained the engine is higher in its rev range and powerband.

In the 1 foot measurement the car is already moving before the clock start. It has the advantage of launch control etc (higher revs) as compared to just slapping your foot down to a car on the 5mph roll.

Late edit since this has come back from the dead. To get good numbers in the 5-60 MPH run you need to drag your brakes forcing the engine to work thereby spinning up the turbo or turbos.

The German car tuning shop where I have gone to for years told me the B58 typically dynos around 5% - 6% more power and torque than what they are rated at. They said it's easy to get 450 - 475 whp out of them with no major mods, on 93 octane.

There is a guy on Supra forums with just a JB+ and downpipe running mid-upper 11’s@120mph
If people are willing to forgo warranty, the B58 can put down a good amount of extra power for little money invested.

As the Z4’s run out of factory warranty and enter 2nd/3rd owners you will see more modding happen.

They said they could fix me up with an intake, down pipe, charge pipe, Pure 800 turbo and JB4 tune that would be good for 550 whp. I could have it in two weeks. I told them I was thinking of something a little tamer. like a JB+ 93 octane tune.

For sure I’d expect DR’s or other, these cars are already traction limited….more power on a 275 stock tire would be spin city.

Agree thats why I asked. These are some street times I still have on my Dragy. No full runs was just checking street joust capability.

I might have gone faster but the quickest 0-60 I can prove with Dragy is 3.72 (rollout) 3.93 (no rollout) also 3.73 (rollout) 3.99 (no rollout)

Car would definitely be a bit quicker with more track oriented tires than the Michelin PSS & PS4 300 treadware street tires. Slips on launch & 1/2 shift.

Point being you can run more power in a quarter mile car on the same tires you have but will lost some of the 0-60 time to finish stronger.

Watch some street tire drag races with Dodge Demons flying by cars with 100 less horsepower just before, at or after the finish line.

They have to chase down the slower car because they can't launch with them.
