Another thing to consider is the antiquated infotainment system in the Boxster, with its teeny tiny screen and absence of wireless CarPlay. By contrast, the iDrive system and perfectly sized high-res screen in the Z4 are light years ahead of what Porsche offers in the Boxster.

The Z4’s electronics is definitely superior!

I built a new 2022 Boxster GTS 4.0 Without getting too sappy, it was the greatest car experience of my life. Then, an uninsured motorist rear-ended me in November '23 and totaled it. Progressive gave me more than what I paid for it, shockingly. Anywho, now I'm in the market for another manual 6 cyl convertible roadster. Building the same Porsche again will cost me at least $10K more plus much higher interest rates, and that's if I can even get an allocation.

So...manual Z4 M40i it is then! Going from naturally aspirated flat 6 to turbo will sort of suck but I'm sure the extra torque will make it just as enjoyable, if not more so.

If anyone is cross shopping the Boxster, for the love of all that is holy, do not give Porsche a single penny of your money for a 4 cyl. You won't be happy and the depreciation is insane. If money is no object and you can get a GTS 4.0 allocation, the Porsche is a no-brainer.

I've more or less decided on the z4 m40i. lets just hope they build enough to accommodate everyone who wants one on this forum!

Supra production seems to be slowly winding down, Toyota is not doing the enthusiast any favors limiting manual transmission.
Has me thinking this is why BMW will have no constraints in ordering a manual Z4. They are going to take the lion share of production in the final couple years.

There's no logical reason why BMW would put any constraints on the manual. The key components - trans, diff, and a few suspension parts - are not particularly rare or hard to source. And the Z4 numbers are small enough it's not going to tax Magna's production capacity.

Looking at last year's sales, a 50% increase would put the annual production about equal to 2019's first year production. That would likely be an excellent response to the MT. But even a super crazy 100% bump in demand from last year would still be less than 20k cars worldwide. That's about 80 cars a day. At that rate, some people may have to wait a while, but it's not going to overwhelm the system. And face it, BMW wants to sell cars, it's what they do.

Ditto. And from initial reports, BMWNA isn’t anticipating any restrictions/limitations per se on orders, so I’m not worried. When our guy told us we were in ‘spot three’ to spec as they got their allocations as time moves forward, I didn’t have any worries, despite them not being a high volume Z4 seller. We’ve got ~22 months of production, we’ll have our opportunity soon enough.

Think putting restraints is the last thing they would do. They need to make back their investment then add some profit to the bottom line. Took a leap of faith for them as national all brands MT sales are down to 2%

Think the only constraint that could come up is getting the supplies to get them built.

. . . and accurately anticipating the demand. Hopefully, ZF is prepared to deliver the transmission in quantities adequate for the demand. With some claiming it has the best feel of any modern BMW manual transmission, demand could be higher than anticipated with other model owners jumping ship for the manual Z4.

I think it is in BMW’s interest to make this happen.
Also take into consideration that Supra sales are down so the assembly line in Austria will have more capacity for the 6MT Z4.
