Different cars for different people. I chose well for me as I plan on cross-country cruising coupled with mountain road driving. I think the 30i gives that great balance referenced in the video. Although the Boxster has two luggage areas I'm pretty sure you can't get a set of golf clubs in the trunk and that is something I really wanted. I've had plenty of cars with a manual transmission and I don't miss the stick at all.
Great comparison review. Thanks for posting! |

I saw that; a couple comments:
They say the price is close but the reality is that they are comparing apples and oranges as they tested a plain base boxster vs. a fully loaded Z4....the real price difference is massive - 43% more for the Boxster when I priced them out. The biggest diffence to me (besides price) is the 6cyl in the M40i is just so much better than the Boxster's turbo flat 4 so by testing the 30i they miss out on the most important difference between the two platforms IMO There is no doubt that the Boxster is a great car; if they had left the 6 cyl in it that they had in the 981, I may have bought one despite the massive price difference. Of course, now they have the GTS 4.0 but the cost will be even more stratospheric! Pricing aside, the Z4 does a good job on the driving dynamics side of life IMO; it will never beat the Boxster because the mid engine flat 4/6 has inherent design advantages that are almost impossible to overcome....but while the Z4 may only have 90% of the dynamic range, most will never fully realize the difference unless you are tracking the cars - BUT the Z4's engine makes an immediate and noticeable difference every time you drive the car. I don't argue with the results, but I become more and more convinced that the Z4 is a bargain compared to virtually every other potential competitor for what the majority of us use a sportscar for. 2 cents, Dave |

The real-world price differential is just too big too ignore.
Even at $70k the Z4 is a bargain compared to a similarly equipped 718.

A very quick but not stupid drive into a tree quick run the 718S could not pull away from the Z4 M40. The Z4 held its gap in the corners & could close up as much as I wanted on the straights. BTW not down on Porsche. My 718S is now my daughters car.

If I didn't go for the M40i I'd go C8 before the Porsche.

I actually went for the M40i after a totally unsuccessful search for a C8. Can't be found for less than $25K over list (and even then, close to impossible to find). I am on a waiting list for a factory order though.
Porsches always rub me the wrong way, so it was never in the running.

C8 vs. Z4
We bought our 2020 S30 used (6 months/4K miles) from a Chevy dealer. Original owner traded it on a C8. Very fortunate find for us, since this was in January this year when there were no allocations and no new stock in our area.

Well, I have a 2022 992 Cabriolet on order to replace my Z4 M40i. Since it will take 6+ months to get here I keep enjoying my Z4.
