Cracked 1000
And... love is in the air. The car is awesome. I've figured out how to overcome a lot of the issues that were bugging me during the first 500. The update:
1. Love Apple Carplay - when it works. I've had a couple of buggy meltdowns during destination guidance but overall very happy with having my iPhone and apps connected. 2. Harman Kardon sounds great when my source is from my iPhone. I guess the quality of the recording is that much better than from XM. When Phil Collin's "In the Air Tonight" came on I jumped as the sound swooshed around behind me and the drums thumped. Try that song out if you get a chance - great to experience the surround sound. 3. On decent roads the car is very smooth. It feels light on its' "feet" and really under control. Just what I had hoped for. I've been running along some better back roads and that's where the car shines. Interstate highways and urban delipidated roads will not give a good review. I can't wait to get it up in the mountains. 4. The car is really quick. Now that I'm over 1,000 miles I'm starting to expand the performance envelope and it is a fast car. I finally had my first (and second and third) overtake on a two-lane and I just blew by each car. Love it! 5. The car is just really pretty to look at. The red and black top is the perfect combination (I should think that right). I laughed as I waved to two other red / black Z4 G29's today out for a Sunday cruise. I said it was a perfect combinaion - not terribly unique! I guess it's not just Corvette owners who give the little wave in passing. 6. There is plenty of wind in the cabin at 60+ mph cruising. I've learned to just raise both windows and that settles things down. No heavy cross winds today (perfect 76-80 degrees and low humidity) so that helped too. Anyway, I love the car and think it's going to be a blast to drive the heck out of it. Mapping out a cross-country trip later this summer that should put a quick 8 or 9,000 miles on the odometer. My next Z4 review will be after that cruise! |

As a fellow Floridian I wanted to let you know that the personalized plate "Z4 G29" is available if you're into that kind of thing. I've always enjoyed personalizing my plates. It was my second choice for my "Endless Summer" plate. I'll post a picture of my new plate once the convicts get it manufactured.

They are great on the highway. I find myself looking down going 90 and didn't realize it. It doesn't "feel" unsafe so you don't notice it

Just picked it up and so far so good. Only problem is it's a SOB to get in and out of! I keep bumping my head getting in. This 71 year old body just isn't as limber as it used to be.

Another trick from one middle aged person to another: program the seat buttons so that 2 is your entry and/or exit position and 1 is your driving position. Seats move reasonably fast and each key fob comes with its own seat memory, so a 2nd driver isn't inconvenienced.

I suggest you schedule your road trip shortly. It's starting to get warm and humid here in the South. Good top down weather for this southern boy. |
