How much time does launch control buy?
Living in the mountains, I don't really have the roads to do a fair 0-60 test on my new Z4 M40i. So I've never tried launch control. But today I did try a timing run without launch on a slightly downhill less than perfect curvy road and did 0-60 in 4.4 seconds (I have an app). So I'm curious how much launch control might have had on that time.

I have never tried launch control so I am curious to see, in same condition, how much can it help with time.
4.4 feels bit slow though, did u warm up your tire? Also dynamic traction setting helps.(which means will have wheel spin so be careful)

But 4.4 feels fast for me. I've never had a car that even claimed that type of speed (last car was a TT that claimed 5.3 and my old Z3 was 5.6).

True, it is already faster than Porsche 911 Carrera S from 10 years ago which did 0-60 in around 4.5.

Launch control will absolutely cut your time - to a transmission rebuild! It is so hard on the transmission the car has to cool down between launches. Unless you're racing for pink slips or borrowing a "friend's" car why subject your engine and drivetrain to that?
That said, I'm on a lease so if I decide to pass on the purchase at lease-end I'll be using launch control on a daily basis! |
