The ZF8 is an awesome, smooth transmission and had no issues in the 6 years been using it. It is way better than the 6MT I had in my 323CIC.
With respect to the manual transmission, I had to have it on my 1980 Vette. Automatics from that era cannot hold a candle to the manuals. |

I had an Audi TT with a dual clutch before my Z4. Maybe just because I was used to the Audi while I'm still learning my Z4, but I think I liked the Audi's gearbox just a bit better.
But both are great.

Here is a side by side comparison of two trips with the same 110 mile distance taken days apart. I used Eco Pro mode in one and Adaptive mode in the other and they had the identical 35.4 mpg. I see no advantage in ever having to use Eco Pro mode when I can achieve the same mileage in Adaptive mode.
According to the manual Adaptive mode is "a balanced driving mode that automatically adapts to the driving situation and driving style. If the navigation system is active, upcoming road sections are considered." |
