2021 Z4 M40  [5.00]
The ZF8 is an awesome, smooth transmission and had no issues in the 6 years been using it. It is way better than the 6MT I had in my 323CIC.

With respect to the manual transmission, I had to have it on my 1980 Vette. Automatics from that era cannot hold a candle to the manuals.

I had an Audi TT with a dual clutch before my Z4. Maybe just because I was used to the Audi while I'm still learning my Z4, but I think I liked the Audi's gearbox just a bit better.

But both are great.

I am lucky enough to have a 2022 model where they still included Adaptive Mode in the Z4. It is extremely fuel efficient and I believe is superior to using Comfort mode for that purpose. I have matched the MPG that I have gotten in Eco Pro mode when I have used Adaptive Mode on my long trips.

I’m on pace to average nearly 33 mpg for the month of February….lots of Adaptive/Comfort mode. Some Sport mixed in.

The way I drive the M40i I can be more fuel efficient then many 30i drivers lol

Here is a side by side comparison of two trips with the same 110 mile distance taken days apart. I used Eco Pro mode in one and Adaptive mode in the other and they had the identical 35.4 mpg. I see no advantage in ever having to use Eco Pro mode when I can achieve the same mileage in Adaptive mode.

According to the manual Adaptive mode is "a balanced driving mode that automatically adapts to the driving situation and driving style. If the navigation system is active, upcoming road sections are considered."

I still think it sucks that BMW dumped dual-clutch. That said, they didn't implement it very well on the E89 Z4.
