Don't think it's quite soon enough to be seeing these in the US. Germany would most likely be where this baby is hiding...for now.

Likely tests in Arjeplog (Sweden) (approx. 60 km south of the Arctic Circle): see here.

Or deserted roads in Finnish Lapland and the North Cape on the Norwegian island of Magerøya (see here).

If it helps, I've seen BMW testing a bunch of cars in Malibu (saw the current X5M before release and the upcoming M5CS on PCH).

I actually ran into a BMW test group testing the M2C in 2017 on top of pikes peak doing high altitude testing.

I was doing a road trip for the eclipse and decided to do a lay over in CO and drove up pikes peak. I chatted with them for like 30 minutes as they had one guy drive up and down.

BMW needs to consider things that will make this car enticing for many types of drivers, not just "hard core" enthusiast. There are a lot of people who purchase these cars that support the genre of M cars who are not "hard core" enthusiast. Without those people, the M genre could not support itself with only "Hard Core Enthusiast". Just my opinion.
These people buy the X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6...

Leave the M2 to be the only 'pure' M car in the whole of M's line up

M3, M4, X3, X4 has the xDrive with the S58

With xDrive they need to add a front diff, a transfer case, drive shafts, fluids...all these extra weights = no thanks
Respectfuly, not really! "These people" do not necessarily buy X1-X6..., but something like a Pilot, 4Runner etc. I believe you CAN get an M3 or M4 with or without Mx-drive and you can also drive it (like the M5) with RWD only. Yes, more weight, but not as much an many people think. Plus, as you read in this forum, there are people out there interested on x-drive in an M2, as there are for the M5, M4 and M3. Enthusiast can simply choose their M. car configures as they want. I appreciate smaller cars, just as my 11' e90 (x-drive) is about as big as I like a car, which why I started to look at the M2 (kept my e90 335 x-drive as my DD). Hopefully BMW has what I want when I start to consider my next BMW.

Call me small minded, but I do not want to see an xDrive M2. Let this thing be the purist M car we have. (I'm against a GC version as well )

Was just about to close a deal on a New November 2020 built M2C to replace my 2018 M2, but after reading this entire thread, will just wait for the G87..
Definitely worth the wait and high expectations.

Totally agree, the rest of the BMW M range is being butchered, do we really need to destroy these cars dynamically as well. Theres enough barges out there already for people, surely.

Agreed

The incoming M2 appears to definitely be growing like the rest of the herd

This comparison is great. It shows how perfect the F87 is.

The 1 series was a bit too short, the 4 series a bit too long, and the new one is just weird.
Proportionally and size-wise this seems to break with the F87. Why doesn't BMW maintain some design discipline to ensure lineage within their car classes? It doesn't seem to hurt Porsche or Ferrari sales growth...

People seem to be appreciating that bigger is not always better (eg. success of iPhone 12 mini) but BMW design ethos seems 5 years behind the times - or catering to international markets that possibly are going to change direction faster than BMW has anticipated.

I'm glad to see I am not the only one who has completely lost faith in BMW's enthusiast market.

No true petrolhead wants a computer infested transmission in a bloated chassis full of all kinds of useless electronics to keep you on the road. If you need all this, then perhaps investing in driving tuition is a better direction.

But alas, gone are the days when you could order most BMW M models with a manual (as that was the default option). Thank god at least Porsche is still introducing proper drivers cars with a manual.

But please people - don't stick a BMW hood badge on your F87 C-pillar.
You won't be fooling anyone.

Perfect! I love my M2C so much that I think I'll find a lot of gripes with the G87 to say silly things like "my car is the last great M car" forcing me to keep it, while planning on getting a G87 somewhere around 2025 to put in the garage next to my F87..., and then getting the final best version of G87 in 2029 to put in the garage next to those two. Time to plan out the saving arc for my trio of M2s.

First you have to get the F87 CS, then the G87C, then the G87C CS, then a Combivan because by then you'll be kicked out of home 4 sure
