Average age of Z4 owners...
This is not altogether directionally surprising, but the median age of Z4 owners is 68-ish... that number is a higher than I would have thought.
Is it the fact that volumes are down so significantly that even though NEW owners might be trending younger, those who have held on to the prior generations are aging and keeping their cars? OR is it that would-be buyers are buying something else on this chart? OR is it that 25% of millennials are living with their parents who have postponed their retirement and thus 2nd/3rd car purchase? Or does the Z4 not appeal to younger people? I'm 40. Am I in the wrong car?? Ha ha. I started with an M3 at 22 y.o. so I suppose I'm on a different age/car curve. Oh dear, had my Porsche with 49, getting the Z4 when I'm 54, going the wrong way about buying cars I guess. Even though, I did have the 370Z at around 42...not sure where the Lexus ES350 F-Sport fit in here but probably after 60 as well.... idk.

I'm afraid I will help increase the average age of lots of the cars on that list. I am 80 in a few months and have owned 7 cars on that list since I was 50.

I think the most interesting part of this is how high the Mustang owner median age is. I owned four of them before I turned 35.
I'm 45 and on my second G29 Z4.

When I got my STI, I was constantly asked why I got a "kid's car". Never understood that. To some people more expensive = more "grown up". To this day, my STI was one of the most fun cars I had at ANY age, at ANY price point and I didn't enjoy the M4 nearly as much as I had hoped. At this point, I've got a pretty good beat on what I like and why which is why I'm excited to take delivery of the Z4. It's a grown up S2000 (had one when I was 26) and right now, that's exactly the vibe I'm looking for. |

I'm also 40, would have been an m3 touring by now, but i couldn't get it down the slope to my parking space, so i'm keeping the Z4, probably until i'm 70

I bring those ages down a little. I bought a new M3 at 29. Kept that for a few years, then started to raise a family so needed mundane cars. My family raising is now almost done, so back to fun cars. Bought my Z4 M40i at 55.

With rising costs perhaps many young(er) people are going without cars, using their parents (as the OP suggested) or running something small and economical / electric.
Bought my first Z and first BMW (discounting the Mini I had) 4 years ago. Had my 3.0i first and traded it in November last year for the M40i - I will be 54 in a few months time. |

Maybe, not opposed to electric, just needs to be functionally competitive; from a driving perspective, range perspective, refueling/re-charging perspective, & an enjoyment perspective.
My diminishing cadence between car purchases may mean I can still get an ICE in 6 years or so. |

I pull some of the averages down, I had a Mustang GT from 1987 to 2003 or from 23 to 39 years old, got my first Z4 at 45 and am on my 3rd Z4 and turned 59 yesterday, Z4s were interrupted from 2017-2019 with an M240i convertible lease. I loved the Mustang with its 5.0 & 5 speed, the M40i is by far my favorite of the bunch though.
