Noticed no longer an option on the configurator.

I thought frozen gray was the best looking color on the configurator (with white interior and cerium gray wheels/accents). However, upon seeing pictures I am left unimpressed.

It is a constrained color due to the labor intensive process. Supposedly no more 2019 CY allocations.

Dealer indicated no issue with order but he is checking on why removed and I will post what I hear when I know. here is the car I ordered - same wheels and seat color with all options. Excited for this one!

My dealer told me Frozen Grey was on "hold", but didn't elaborate. Love the color but passed due to the maintenance concerns anyhow so I didn't pursue.

Hi German1967. Wanted to ask specifically what you heard about no more allocations/source. mine said my order was in and looks fine but until the car is being built supposedly July 23 have my concerns cuz gotta have this grey! Any info you could share. Who said no more 2020 allocations? thanks for any clarifications - just curious.

I read this on a German forum. It may very well not be true for all countries. It seems demand for FG exceeds capacity - very labor intensive - and hence wait times are much longer than for other colors.

Your SA is the best source of reliable information. If he got the order in for a 2019 production week you are good.

According to autotrader there are 31 grey out there for sale in the US with less than half being M40i trim (12). Pretty rare.

Looks like just one M40 with cognac interior.

My vehicle will be delivered via Euro Delivery on July 9th. It's a 2020 Model Year car in Frozen Grey. My dealer told me back about 2 months ago that they were out of the Frozen Grey for the 2019 model year run, but it looks fine for the 2020s (unless they somehow already ran out again?)

Hope this helps!

Good luck to you! I'm really curious now too - maybe the additional work it takes to put the frozen grey paint on as opposed to the regular glossy finish paints was slowing down the production line? Either way, I guess I own a "rarer" vehicle now

According to the UK online configurator today, Frozen Grey II metallic is still available to order.

Interesting. Maybe there's a limited allocation of frozen grey for each area?

that sounds like likely scenario - certain number by country. My dealer emailed somebody in distribution center or somewhere up the line to ask why it is not showing - once I hear back will post but betting you are right: allocation by country/region...

Based on some chatter in a German forum, BMW underestimated the demand for the frozen colors and hence the delays. They may have pulled forward non-frozen color orders and created an even longer delay. All hearsay, of course, so take with grain of salt.

email back from my dealer just received:

"Got confirmation back from distribution today . . . .

They are, in fact, discontinuing the color for the 30i, but not for the M40, so yours is good to go!

Cheers"

Not sure why it is not available on the configurator for the M40i - perhaps allocation issue or they want to build other colors before resuming?

I almost went with the cerium grey wheels! Might mount winter tires on them and swap out - they look really gorgeous in photos!

At least for Canada, there is a high restriction on all special paint/Individual paints for all models. That does not mean orders cannot be placed for paints like Frozen Grey but there is a high probability that the order will be need to be amended with another exterior paint color.
