330 owners - How's the acceleration

I know this isnt an "off the line" racecar, but I'm curious how you 330 owners feel about the overall acceleration of the 330. I've driven a 325i (step) and wasnt too impressed with the acceleration. It reminded me a lot of my E36 325i. Although it did make it up to 90mph and was smooth as hell, just not FAST. Preferrably 6sp Manual owners but Step owners feel free to comment. Is there any of that "whip you back in your seat" feeling? How about on downshifts, say from 5th to 3rd or 6th to 4th?

Just had a spin in the car, 3,000 miles on the clock and the engine is whining beautifully now. The power certainly whips you back in my sport seats! Believe me, the 330 is quick....

I have about 700 miles on the odo now, and acceleration is getting better every day. The engine/transmission is also operating smoother as I put more miles on, engine/exhaust note is also getting better.

Bottom line: it's gonna take some time for this car to reach its maximum potential, and I can only imagine how good it's gonna be then.

1200 miles for break-in, although I've read here that some are still getting better at 8k.

As for my acceleration, it's real good now, getting better with more miles. I'm at 2500 so far.

I have 3,200 miles on my E90 step. When I use "DS" mode and step on it I get pushed back into the seat. It's not a race car but very fast for a sedan.

For my previous e46 330i, the engine really became noticeably stronger by the time I hit around 10000km = 6000miles, so I would expect the same of my current e90 330i.

In answer to the OP, it depends on what car you have driven in the past. If say your previous car was a Corvette, then you'll find the 330's acceleration lacklustre, even with a manual. For me coming from an e46 to e90 330i, both with manual, I find the e90 deceptive in it's acceleration because 1.) it's quieter and more refined, and 2.) the peak torque band is so early and flat that you don't feel the "whip you in the back" feeling as much. What you do feel is a furious non-stop rush of power as you hurtle towards the horizon.

I drive a 330i with manual transmission. Just passed the break-in period and started revving it up a little bit. With this car, I get some serious acceleration in 1st and 2nd gear when I rev up to about 7,000 rpm in each gear. But you really have to floor it until the pedal touches the base of the accelerator. If I step on the gas with what feels like about 80~90% force, I do not get nearly the same acceleration.

I've previously owned a Honda Prelude with manual transmission and an Infiniti FX35 AWD in automatic, and 330i is far superior in EVERY ASPECT. The only disappointment I have is about the defective speaker on the drivers side front door (severe distortion on high volume). Once I get that replaced, I'll look for the next thing to complain about.

Yeah, to get "zoom-zoom" acceleration, you have to engage the kick down mechanism. Leadfoots unite!

I thought the kick-down was just in automatics.

330i acceleration is impressive. It certainly pushes you back into the seat if you floor it. My car only has 200miles on it so I haven't even had a chance to get past 4000 RPM but even then the acceleration is impressive. I'm coming from an e46 325Ci and it literally blows it away (in feel), even when I'm only using half the RPM.

Acceleration is smooth and torque is great. As mentioned above, its not a v8 type of kick, but from about 2200 on up, the engine just pulls. I'm still in break in and haven't had a change to really spool it past 4500 yet.

Additionally, the engine sounds great at about 4K.

Acceleration is great with my automatic transmission. I passed the 2000 mark few days ago and the car feels faster now.

It's only 258Hp since they had to comply with the new SAE test standards!

I test drove a few manual TLs and even though they are quick, they are def not as smooth as 330is. What I noticed was that the TL has very quick acceleration off the line and you don't even have to release the clutch too much, it grabs the gears real quick. But it doesn't have the constant torque throughout the gears. It's very touchy on the steering too, so it seems to roll a lot more than a 330i.

but its still basically the same 270hp motor, and will pump out
the same number when used with 91+ octane gas.

Your right, same motor, with 258 real hp, not 270. I don't think acura got 270hp from higher octane fuel.

Side note, I notice you have a 5th gen Prelude with lots of tuning. I have a '99 base with alot of mods as well! Pretty fun car! My prelude goes around corners with no lean, something I miss when I drive the bimmer, but that's about it!
