Generally it's a nice design but seems a bit contrived. I don't get that it will even be larger than the outgoing one but lighter. Just make it lighter and smaller. Also, the ragtop ugh.

Few things to note based on my convo with a few heads there.
1. Rearview and side view mirrors will not make it as they are obviously too small. 2. Windshield most likely won't be in that shape either. It's a nice design but not that functional. 3. This was purely a concept car as there was no top nor was there even a place to put a top in (soft or hard). 4. The doors are supposedly opened by pushing a button at the top of the doors where they meet the rear panels of the car. 5. Met and chatted with a lady who does colors for BMW. Learned that they can do virtually any individual customization you want, so long that you're willing to pay. For example, diamond encrusted paint or trim panels. 6. Taillights were OLED. Expecting these to make it to production. 7. Wheels and tires were for show because they're way too big to even function properly. Tires were Michelin Sport Cup 2. Wheels were VW-esque. We'll see what they'll put in the production version. I highly doubt that 90% will make it to production as per Adrian. I think it will change quite a bit. I think around 60-70% is more like it. |

En profil the Z4 Concept looks short and a little bit 'chunky', in other words: not very sleek and elegant looking, what you should expect from a classic roadster...
...that's why I overlayed the Z4 Concept over the E89 Z4to compare the both. I scaled the Z4 Concept down, based on the 20" rim. Lengthwise both are nearly equal. Only the wheelbase and positioning of the wheels are different. The overhang on the front and the lower windscreen seems to change the proportions of the car. |

Are those mirrors or the current rage, cameras? The concept Mercedes have them, too.

The Z4 has a simple folding soft top which will be located behind the front seats and added roll-over protection hoops. The styling elements such as the crisp lines and less frantic surface treatments are visible on the prototypes. However we will shortly see the prototypes with full headlights and tail lights and you will see that the outlines are retained but some of the lighting details are not fully. The Z4 brings ideas illustrated back in 2011 on the Vision ConnectedDrive but in a more modern and progressive form.

Just saw it. Looks pretty nice in person. The profile looks great. The rear kind of reminds me of an Infinity. At least the taillights.

No offense, but as the owner of a 320d of all models, I'm not sure you'd be the best judge on what's core BMW versus mass market. I have had many BMWs and always admired the brand, but some of their recent designs and offerings are pretty watered down. Only the M cars are true to their original ethos.

I mostly agree. BMW has definitely lost that edge. There iscmore technology in the cars, but they have also bent over to mainstream mass market appeal. With that said, I do reserve judgement on the new transmission though because the Auto in the new Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio is smoking performance-wise. Having just come out of a DCT, I've been pleasantly surprised but it's lightening fast precision and smoothness.

"So it sounds like it will be sportier than the previous Z4?
“What we want to convey with the proportions is clearly performance – it’s a driver’s car, it’s a sports car, it’s super agile, it’s light-footed and extremely dynamic.”" if they are so compromised with the character of the car being above everything sporty, then it seems odd to me that they aren't producing an M version from the get-go? Isnt that the point of the M division? Thats the only 2 seater they're building..i don't understand why they rather build M-SUVs but not a proper 2 seater in M guise? This car deserves it..actually its about the only car in the line up apart from the M3/4 that necessarily should receive their blessing. Fits more than anything else their philosophy. I bet ppl at M are having wet dreams about receiving the green light to pump this car. |

looks like a mini 8 series. This will be the new design language.

I'll take the Maybach. You couldn't pay me to drive the Z4 abomination.
