Wondering….so the cost of the manual is going to add $3500, if the frozen paints add about the same cost and they are special to the manual cars, does that mean the frozen paint is essentially “free” if you opt for manual? Or are you paying 3500 for manual and add 3500 for frozen paint? So that frozen manual they are showing in photos is already about 73k before other options.

I’m guessing the $3,500 is just for the manual and other related bits. I’m sure the paint options are still additional.

Yes, the frozen paint will cost you additional - if you load this out it will push $80k.

This announcement is fantastic.

This car absolutely needs a stiffer suspension and less roll to be considered more than a GT car, IMO, so all the changes I'm reading should make this a true driver's car. Can't wait to read the real reviews.

As a former NC Miata driver, the Z4 already feels like it has no body roll to me

This is so unfair for us 😭😭😭.

New wheels that are 20 inches, stiffer anti roll bars, I'm guessing the M240i axle is "better" than three Z4?? Which makes no sense?

Plus new color. 😭😭. So unfair.

And how exactly is this an M lite suddenly? How is it a M40is rather than just M40i? There's no power upgrade, so they made it handle much better? So unfair 😭😭🖕

But I was kinda right when I said it would be a limited edition but not limited edition in the Z4 manual thread

Here's my post from the Z4 manual thread

"I think it would be limited release and POSSIBLY cost MORE than the ZF8.... that will cost MORE than a new M2 starting price

It's a tough sell. So if it comes out it might not be limited edition, but have limited numbers and cost extra"

That is a beautiful car (the color not so much though...). But man, $200k. When they're used and just out of warranty, they'll still probably be around $100k, yikes....

I like the progress, the Z4 has been essentially the same car since introduction. This doesn’t make current Z4 owners suddenly have a “worse” car.
If stiffening the ride is a concern you can always go aftermarket

Interesting read in the comments for that SL63, not very positive. And someone dropped a note about getting a manual Z4 instead of it lol

Hah. His comment stuck in my head too. I think he means the other green won't be a frozen color.

Because the car in the photos is definitely a frozen green of some sort. Regular San Remo Green looks as you'd expect - very glossy.

Update Dec. 11, 2023, 12:32 PM: A BMW representative told The Drive that the manual M40i was made available for media testing as part of an "extremely small preview" event, and that "more information will be made available through the usual channels at the end of January." In other words, expect an official launch in a little more than a month's time.

Unfair? How so? We've known it was coming for well over a year.

Makes no sense? I suspect the M240i axle is a bit sturdier with a better differential, allowing it to better handle potentially greater forces from operating a manual transmission, but just a guess.

New color unfair? It's not unusual for BMW to introduce new colors with a LCI or new model nor to change other bits to increase interest.

Also, not a big surprise there's a small price bump for it and certainly no surprise to anyone that production numbers will be small.

The only surprise for me is all of the work they've put into suspension changes though, in retrospect, it makes sense. I won't be signing up for the manual, never planned to, but I'm happy that BMW will offer it. It fills a small but important niche.

Yeah but you pay a very heavy tax penalty. Lived there in the late 1980's early 1990's. Company car was a I6 4.0L Jaguar Sovereign sedan.

We had BMW 1.6, 1.8 & 2.0's on the car list for junior managers. Cars in the UK are crazy expensive due to motor vehicle & fuel tax. Mine in the UK@GBP was the same number as the same car sold in the US@USD. At the time 1GBP was worth 1.93USD.

Ok so they're slapping on components from the M240i.

Lets think about this. The M240i has "superior" components but only does 0.94g on the skidpad, while the z4 has inferior components and does 1.0g on the skidpad, and the G80/82 do 1.3 on the skidpad with full blown M components.

This means that with M components the z4 would probably hit 1.5 or 1.6 on the skidpad, and with the M240i components it will definitely reach 1.2-1.3g. That's an amazing number for BMW. It just shows how perfectly balanced and proportioned the Z4 is to hit 1.0g with relatively mild suspension components

Stopped by the local dealer today (Macon GA), clueless about manual. Actually showed the car and driver article with details. Was told it would probably be a 25’.

So they obviously are not enthusiasts or informed which means I will probably go back to the dealer I orig bought my 22’ from.

That said, I want to see the other green as I am not a fan of “frozen” matte colors.

Also, not sure what else out there is even considered. I looked at 718’s and yea, phenomenal chassis, bland looking and so over priced esp. with options. Mustangs are now 60k or higher and not nearly as refined aside from their ability to take out pedestrians.

Way too many corvette C8’s out there and a Z06 is out of my reasonable financially stupid decision limits.

So the manual and upgrades for under 75k? I’ll take another please.

Aside from the greens for the 6MT they might change the colors offered for next year's regular Z4 models.
