I don't care particularly care for a vert and would like the extra seats (but don't need them).

Funny thing is I like that the Z4 is lighter and smaller. If it shifts better and has more steering feedback over the M2, I'm in. I'm not knocking the M2, at all, just know what I'd rather have of the 2.

Sounds like someone who's never driven a BMW with manual transmission.

And I'm commenting as a 128i M-sport 6MT driver.

Read the reviews and you will see how BMW tweaked it.

Yea but loading it up takes away from driver engagement!! lol

One of the things that I’m still not used to is the font/coloring on the main LCD gauges. I find it vague on the rpm side when shifting myself. I DO have the hud and probably should make use of its sports mode.
But yea as a manual driver without hud i would be rather difficult to know exactly where in the rpm band the engine is in. The auto is handling that 99% of the time so I’m not focusing much on rpm.

This.

For whom the G87 is a toy/weekend/track car, the Z4 is a car to consider.

For those of us who only have one car, sadly it’s not an option, and the G87 is the only one.

Wish I could get a toy like a Z4 manual…

Toys normally cost more because they are niche and a lifestyle product.

You guys that can should get one and keep it.

Your statement really depends on one’s circumstances. My son is an adult and has his own family to attend to so I don’t worry about driving others. The Z4 is my daily driver and it totally performs that role and in my case is not a toy.

Sounds like someone who's never driven a car with a proper manual transmission. BMW manuals are terrible. Go drive a S2000 and get back to us.

I know it will never happen- but imagine a z4 M instead of the m40i

Imagine the return of the M Roadster. A goodbye reminiscent of the first M Roadster when it was a z3. As a former z3 2.8 new in 99- I dream about that old car and how special it felt.

Just a thought - should we think about the AT/MT Z4 comparison more like the 135i/1M comparison? 1M was/is not a real 'M', but it has improvements that the 135i did not have and no more horsepower than 135is. Handles better than the 135i and has not suffered in the depreciation environment.
Maybe a better way to frame the comparison for folks.

I'm certainly not the target audience, however I am really happy this exists. I think it will help the target audience stop complaining about the M2 and get what they really want. We can all get along.

No, 1M is a lot closer to an actual M-car. It got actual M3 equipment...subframes, all suspension components(dampers, control arms, bushings, sway bars, etc.), LSD, steering rack, brakes, wheels, tire sizes. Also a full wide body to accommodate those upgrades. I'd say AT/MT Z4 it is more akin to 335i vs 335is, "is" got the DCT, sport tuned software, different exhaust, unique wheels, trim details.

It’d be interesting if they make an MZ4 or Z4M. If they do they should just make it one version and put out the best first, go straight to MZ4CS with the S58. Better the S58 go in BMW’s two seater than Toyota’s. Both is also good tho.

Fingers crossed on manual and xdrive options to choose from 😅.
