Help for a neighbor

My neighbor just bought a 2020 Z4. He always wanted a BMW and I think seeing my M240i he finally broke down and bought one.

He asked me if he should get a front end bra for his car. I told him I personally wouldn't put one on, but I know other guys that put them on their cars to eliminate bug clean up and some of the minor chips you can get on the road.

He said he could not find one for a 2020, so I looked online also and all I saw were ads for Expel and other paint protection products.

Anyone know where he can find a fabric/vinyl clip on type front bumper, grille and lower hood bra?

Thanks to all who respond. He is only interested in those nasty looking fabric type bras.....so please no sales pitches for Expel/3M or other protection films.

My take on a bra is that they look like sh*t for the owner and may or may not help the looks for the future owner when he takes it off.

I buy cars for my enjoyment, not the future owner's enjoyment.

I've also see paint and rust damage caused by a bra. When dirt and grit gets behind a bra, significant damage can occur.

I couldn't agree more. Never saw the logic of buying a beautifully designed car and then throw a burlap sack over the front end.

However, in to day's social climate, I tell people to do what makes them happy or makes them feel secure rather than try to change their minds.

I've seen car bra's rub off paint and car covers damage a car's clear coat. Yet, the people want them and the market thrives.

Still, anyone that knows where he can get, one, please furnish a link.

Like Forest's Mama said, "stupid is as stupid does".

I don't think anyone on this forum is going to give you a thumbs-up on fabric-type font-end bra.

1. So 90s ... no longer "in-style" ... not sure if htey ever were
2. They actually allow dirt underneath and cause micro scratches to the clear coat
3. Clear-bra was invented

I personally put Xpel PPF (clear bra) on all of my cars that I own.

1. Actually protects the paint ... no chance of failure later
2. Can't tell its there (unless you are cheap and do a partial panel ... ie. 3/4 hood)
3. Self-healing (takes a hit from a rock chip, protects the paint, and the indent it takes will eventually level out or merge back together from the heat/sun)

I know you don't want a PPF ad/push, however since we aren't still in 1990s where the film hasn't yet been invented, and no better options, we are in 2021 and there are much better alternatives

I leased my G29, and wasn't sure if I was going to keep long-term, so I didn't add PPF ... but I have it on my 2019 Tundra front-end and my G05 X5 45e, and those vehicles were about $2500 and are both covered full nose, including headlights, fog lights, and mirror caps. The X5 has rocker panels, wheel arches and rear bumper also covered for the cost. So you have a frame of reference.

Agreed. I had one in 1989 on a Trans Am when people thought they were cool, but what was I thinking...🙄

I had one back in the day.
Problem was fitment wasn't perfectly tight and at highway speeds the thing would flap a tiny bit on the hood and ultimately made marks on the car that I could never get off.

I would tell him to check in his area to see if there is anyone that installs the clear "skin" that if installed correctedly it is hard to see.

The science may still be out on that one, but I have never heard of a car getting or passing on COVID-19. Therefore really don't think a face mask is needed for a Z4.

Me too, only on a Mustang; ruined the paint on the hood.

I only use N95 masks on my cars.
