Goodluck and speedy recovery! My left shoulder has been getting progressively worse over the past year, need to get MRI done but thinking rotator cuff issues.

The software updates check the status of the battery charge so I like to keep the battery topped up in the event that a software update gets pushed.
My Carrera S battery would go dead in 24 hours if you didn't lock the car. This was common, not just my car. Even locked, it wouldn't last more than a couple weeks. The Z4 seems to have a very good hibernation mode.

Best of luck with the surgery. I have a torn rotator cuff and detached bicep in my right arm. I wasn't given any good options for fixing it. So, I live with it. I had physical therapy to restore arm movement, which gave some improvement, but had some unusual side effects.

Thanks, had this done before in 2006. Timing sucked was a week after I took delivery of a 6 speed TL.

Was still active in martial arts till a few years ago so it got beat up pretty good over time.

Was the heavy breaker on the demo team. Would do a series of boards & end up with concrete paving blocks.

If this old guy can do it anyone can.

Had the MRI & was given a 50/50 chance of success on a regular operation like I have (4 pins) now to stabilize it.

Was offered an alternative which might be something for you to see about. Alternative is to insert patches into the damaged area. Results are about 85/90% sucess.

Issue is the insurance companies don't like to pay for this "extra" so you can be out of pocket $1500 to $3000. My choice was to go for the better odds.

Ugh, my rotator cuff is messed up, but I've been stretching and gently working it out for the last few months. It's not great yet but it's headed the right direction. You guys are making me nervous.

Funny how the cold weather thread took a turn.

I've got 2 of these, I love them. I park my 135i for weeks at a time during the winter if the roads are salty, and keep this going on it when I do. That stock battery lasted 10 years and I replaced it only as a preventive maintenance thing, was still working fine when I did. May have partly been because of this thing? I don't know if "desulfating" is an effective thing, and it's just a sample size of n=1, but I'll definitely keep using it.
I believe the battery charger for the Z4 needs to be an 'AGM' charger. Same as the Supra. It's not good to use a regular charger.

Most modern chargers have an AGM mode but it's worth verifying when making a purchase.

Might be a good plan to get ab AGM specific charger.

My Z4 was sitting in an unheated garage for nearly two weeks, with several days below 15 F. Started right up.

I have this charger in case it needs some juice. BMW part no. 82-11-0-087-135

Good notes on the AGM battieries. The charger I linked has been great for me, and says it can do Optima AGM, but... I think the CTEK and BMW offerings are indeed probably better. I may actually replace my current charger with one of those!

My torn rotator cuff had been that way for years, so much so that lots of scar tissue had built up and back muscles had grown to compensate. My only option was replacement with tissue and muscle from a cadaver and a year of rehab, or physical therapy to restore some movement by breaking down scar tissue. The surgical option would have only prevented things from getting worse. I chose the PT, which worked, except for unintended consequences.

Same here. I took mine out this morning. Was sitting for two weeks, due to it being cold/snowy and me having Lasik. It's been in the negatives a couple of days, and was 6 degrees this morning. Started right up, no issues.

I had a bunch of battery issues on my M340i, and I'm wondering if it was because it had the mild-hybrid system/battery as well, which the Z4 doesn't. That seemed to be super sensitive to the cold and would constantly give me low battery warnings.

I've had the CTEK for about 10 years now. It works great. It's the older version of the MUS 5.0. It's significantly cheaper than the BMW branded version.

It was a big help on my E89 which would struggle if I went 4 weeks without driving it. Started using the CTEK and no issues. It was also a good indicator of when the battery started going. I got about 7 years out of the battery. I changed it when I noticed the CTEK was taking noticeably longer to top it off when I plugged it in.

I also noticed the CTEK was a very good indicator of when it was time for a new battery by the time it took.
