Just ordered an M40i and 3 questions - IT'S HERE!
MY CHARIOT HAS ARRIVED! SEE MY LAST POST.
I just ordered a Z4 M40i from our dealer here in Chandler, AZ. Sales rep says I should get the first allocation available on February 1. Configuration: Portimao Blue 18" wheels Cognac interior Standard black top Driving Assistance Package Premium Package Red brake calipers Adaptive Cruise Standard audio I'm 76 years old and I figured it was now or never. Until 4 years ago I rode a BMW R1200RT motorcycle all over the western US, especially the Arizona and Utah canyon lands. I'm hoping that my former riding buddies will let me rejoin them in the Z4. I ordered 18" wheels for comfort and so I don't have to worry about bent rims here in Arizona. No shadowline package. Don't like the look. My hearing is so bad the HK surround sound system is a waste for me. I have a couple of questions: - I assume my Z4 will come with the integrated RAM module for audio. This means there is no hardware mod for defeating the Active Sound Design, only coding, correct? - Does the Z4 iDrive 7 menu have the 'Engine Sound' option with reduced, sporty or driving mode options for adjusting the ASD? - Do cars destined for Phoenix, Arizona arrive at a Gulf coast port or a West cost port. It seems that this will have an effect on shipping time, assuming a Gulf coast destination is faster. I'm hoping my Z4 will arrive before the June 110 degree heat here in the desert.. ASD, correct, it can be coded out. Engine Sound Option, no, I'm fairly certain that's not a separate option for the Z4. Port? I don't know. Take another look at the Moonlight Black top. It's pretty sharp, adds another dimension to the look and it's a low cost option. Most photos don't do it justice. |

Congratulations! Your going to love the Z4!
In regards to the ASD, I don’t really notice it in the M40i. It doesn’t even have an option to turn it off in the radio (I have the HK) |

Congrats. That's a nice spec, and I'm sure you'll love it.
Figured I'd mention, if you like the 19 inch wheel styles over the 18"s, I'd get them. I don't think you'll notice any difference in the comfort. I have the 19's, but my winter setup is 18's. I can't really tell any difference at all between the two, and the roads here are really torn up.

Congratulations. Nice build.
ASD can be coded out. ASD is not independently adjustable but does change with engine mode. Sport and Sport+ are louder. Comfort and Eco-Pro are quieter. I don't find it objectional. The only time I notice it is on startup. Not sure about the port, but I believe everything west of the continental divide is west coast. Phoenix would be Port Hueneme. Galveston would be the other possibility. It may depend on availability as the number of ships bound for the gulf and west coasts are much fewer in frequency than the east coast. Your dealer should be able to tell you.

Nice picks.
19" if you like the styles or looks better. The adaptive suspension will provide a very good ride as the get flat tires have softer sidewalls than the RFT on most BMW's. Sport+ for me (82) & Comfort when wife (80) is in the car. Agree with StanDiego on the roof. Have both standard black & Moonlight on my cars, Moonlight is way nicer looking & is a better fabric.

Very nice spec, congrats on the order.
I think the 18" 798M wheels look spectacular in person (they look pretty meh in the configurator), and they also come with the Michelin tires since the Continental Sport Contact 6 is technically not available in 255/40 R18 (for the front, though the rear 275/40 R18 is available). I'd personally go 18" again even if the 19" options were no-cost (which, at only $600 they effectively are). I also opted for the black roof after seeing both of them in person and I think it's really nice. In my case though, I do have Shadowline which was one reason for opting for the pure black instead of the Moonlight, if you're getting the Cerium trim the Moonlight might be worth considering. To be honest it was a very close call for me. As for your questions:

Nice spec. Question.. why'd you go with 18" vs 19" wheels?
Hope that you get it before the heat too. I'm from central texas, so I get it. lol My build is very similar to yours. Check out my garage for pics.

Welcome and congratulations!
Lots of good advice here. When you get your allocation, you'll know the production week. Figure ~8 weeks from its production date to delivery. Your car might go to a port in Texas and get shipped from there. Did you look on Cars.com and the other sites, BTW? There are lots of M40i's available right now. Anyone will ship right to you (or your dealer might be able to get it for you from another dealer). The wheel option is personal preference. 18" tires are cheaper if you intend to drive a lot. The 19's look very nice. I have the 19's and think the ride is very good, even over rough surfaces. Charles

Thanks
Thank you everyone for your kind words and cogent information. I used to be active on the BMW motorcycle owners forum. Now I can switch to here.
I think I'll stick with the 18" tires because: - 18" vs 19" styling doesn't mean much to me. - 18" provides better protection from potholes, etc. - 18" tires seem to provide a better platform for what a tire's supposed to do. But as the Dude says "That's just my opinion, man!" |

the engine sound menu can be coded in also, i used to have it. But i don't think it did anything. Or maybe my exhaust was just too loud so i couldn't hear the difference

The Z4 with iDrive 7 allows you to adjust the Engine Sound settings. You can find these options in the iDrive menu under "CAR" > "settings" > "general settings." > “Engine sounds” It's an exciting journey you're embarking on, and I hope your Z4 arrives well before the summer heat kicks in. |

I have a m40i with the HK sound. Unless it’s a combination of radio and trim, no ASD settings to be found. |

That is a nice build. Defiantly order the Moonlight top. It will look sharp with the blue.
