Colors that retain value the MOST. Shocking discovery.
And here I thought white definitely would hold up and sell the MOST/HIGHEST.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/jimgorz...h=699a8dc14415 Here's a snippet. [Three-Year-Old Vehicle Depreciation By Car Color Yellow (4.5%) Orange (10.7%) Purple (13.9%) Red (14.0%) Green (14.0%) Blue (14.3%) Gray (14.3%) Beige (14.4%) Silver (14.8%) White (15.5%) Black (16.1%) Gold (16.7%) Brown (17.8%)] https://www.forbes.com/sites/jimgorz...ale-value/amp/ [There’s a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy going on here, with many consumers picking mainstream colors not because they like them, but because they assume everyone else does,” says iSeeCars executive analyst Karl Brauer. “This makes white, black, and silver appear to be in high demand, yet our analysis confirms that more obscure colors tend to hold their value better than common and popular colors.”] [The study determined that yellow cars tend to bring back the most bucks, depreciating an average 45.6 percent less than conservative colors after three years. Other standout shades in terms of resale value include bright-and cheerful shades of orange, green, red, and blue] [Yellow is most often seen in the palettes of sports cars and muscle cars, along with orange, which is also commonly used for limited-edition models used to commemorate a particular vehicle’s milestone. Yet some colors that deviate from the norm, particularly purple, brown, and gold, tend to depreciate quicker than duller paint treatments despite their relative scarcity in both the new and used markets. Perhaps taste matters here. “Rarity alone does not equal value. If a color doesn’t resonate with enough used car shoppers it will hurt resale value, even if it’s uncommon,” says Brauer.] [Here are new-vehicle colors ranked according to their rates of depreciation, according to iSeeCars.com: Yellow: 20.4% 3-year depreciation Beige: 22.8% 3-year depreciation Orange: 27.1% 3-year depreciation Green: 31.3% 3-year depreciation Gray: 36.4% 3-year depreciation Red: 36.9% 3-year depreciation Blue: 37.0% 3-year depreciation Silver: 37.6% 3-year depreciation White: 38.0% 3-year depreciation Black: 38.4% 3-year depreciation Purple: 41.2% 3-year depreciation Brown: 42.1% 3-year depreciation Gold: 45.6% 3-year depreciation] SO damn thundernight metallic will depreciate hard. Misano and Portimao aren't much better. Austin yellow gold m4 was something I considered buying but my instinct and Intuition told me it would NEVER resell and what do you know I haven't seen Austin yellow since like 2018, literally NO ONE has that dirty gold color anymore and it depreciated the most. Red and grey z4s will do good, frozen orange was a rare z4 color.but looks more red but will sell best. And the best color yellow (which I agree I love a nice deep strong yellow), is king but z4 doesn't have a yellow Porsche makes some of the best yellow and orange cars especially on the 911 |

This is interesting and such, but based on the lease buyout/residual on my orange M340i, I can tell you the depreciation is much higher than 27.1% after 3 years.

That must be in the US, in different parts of the world is not the same. A yellow car where I live will be very difficult to sell. White or black cars are fast sellers.

Maybe there's some flaw in the data as white black grey sell brand new the most and resell the most too. Maybe yellow resale is highest because of exotic sport cars. I doubt people are buying yellow dodge neons |

I don't know... the Nitro Yellow Green Dodge/Plymouth Neon ACR is a pretty rare and sought after car in some circles!

The issue with the 'rare' colors being worth more on the resale market is finding that 1 in 50 buyer who wants that color. They may be willing to pay for it but it takes effort to connect. You've got a reasonable chance on a personal sale through an enthusiast site or auction like BaT if you're willing to wait.
If you're trading it at the local dealer, they're looking for a quick resale. They won't offer much of a premium, if any, as any likely delay in moving the car adds to their costs. "It's going to be hard to sell." And ultimately, paying less means more profit. Buy the color you like and don't worry about resale value. I had an olivin green e60. Loved the color. Whenever I checked its value on KBB or Edmunds, they always knocked the value down a bit for being green. When I traded it, it was immaterial. At 11 years old and 175k miles, the color made no difference. Gerry

These numbers are averages, color depreciation is most likely based on the car model, cars just look better in or worse in differrent colors, in my opinion of course

Yep, sorry I don't believe that for a minute and it certainly isn't accurate for every individual model, etc. Selling a yellow Boxster or 'vette may be fine, but good luck selling a Range Rover or Mercedes in that color.....I think red is expected on a Ferrari....not so much on an X5.
It's hard to go wrong with Black, white, silver, grey, etc. but I would buy whatever I liked without worrying about potential resale down the road. Dave |

Misano blue with ivory and shadowline is just perfect.
It's the perfect match on the z4 roadster and perfect for driving along the coast. Idk why, but I usually don't like colors on other bmw models, like I don't like black on most bmw's or grey or purple or red or blue, but on the z4, EVERY color looks amazing except white(which I have) white is the only basic looking one and it still looks good. Misano with ivory and shadowline is like driving on a sunny day that has nice fluffy white clouds lol |

Yea 😍😍..
Here's mine. I noticed on one of my wheels right on the rim, there's a tiny chip barely noticeable and my heart dropped 😭😭👿👿. Idk how it happened someone must have done something. Anyway I put on rimblades to protect the rims. Also, black kidney grills. Now I feel like the cerium trim on the corners of the bumber need to be black IS that Miami? Miami is crazy especially Miami Beach. One place I visited and find repulsive in Florida is Orlando 🤮🤮 Also have you put on new springs and or spacers? What was the cost? I've heard the z4 can fit 305s on the rear and 275 front |
