Why We Still Don't Have Electric Airplanes

not everyone is happy with electric cars but i guess having electric planes can be useful for everyone.. and can change the way we travel here and there.. though manufacturing methods and recycling process of batteries definitely needs to get better..

Garage List
it's cool and all but if your goal is to move people less than 500 miles, wouldn't an electric mag-lift train be much safer and more efficient? It's extremely fast, less complex than piloting an airplane plus no take off or landing. This is why the car/plane idea from the 50's didn't take off. A pilot has to constantly communicate with ATC, thoroughly understand weather condition and be able to navigate under VFR, IFR not to mention all the flight checks and the physical act of flying the plane. An electric plane isn't going to make flying more practical for the masses.

The only reason this might be useful is when you must travel from small island to island where it would be too expensive for the government to build bridges and connecting railways.

Wow, that video misleads the audience to believe that battery advancements will follow a similar exponential improvement like our previous computer processor development did (past tense used on purpose). Just wow.

There are a few small single passenger electric planes. I didnt watch the video but I would imagine the cost to build an electric commercial aircraft would be astronomical. The amount of batteries required would weigh a ton and then you have a fire issues with lithium ion batteries. The smart move would be to work to make jets as efficient as possible.

Why not solar powered planes? I mean, they're closer to the sun than houses...
