The adaptive mode is more than just the suspension. Adaptive mode adjusts the Dynamic Damper Control, the transmission, and the steering with real-time navigation to match the driver's driving style and situation. Without it there are 2 base active damping characteristic maps, Comfort map and Sport map. Adaptive mode slides back an forth into these maps as conditions vary. The system also relies on interaction with real-time navigation to adjust the suspension control in preparation for bends, intersections or different road conditions. Only thing I can say is I use it 100% on any trip. Around town Sport+

BMW never dropped the touch screen on the Z4. They did drop the iDrive touch control for a while as well as the HUD on the S30i (yes, chip shortages, supply chain issues, even the war in the Ukraine where many BMW/MINI wiring harnesses were manufactured) but the touch screen was never dropped nor adaptive suspension. |

I use the robot to maintain a steady speed set at 85MPH. Throttle gets hit hard to pass & some open stretches' go into the twilight zone. Amazing to watch big pickups & SUV's running warp speed while the full EV's hover in the 60/65 range. Not they are being upright citizens as the speed limits can run 70/75mph. Range Anxiety ? EV's will come but I think the best steps are Hybrids for spanning the time for EV's to get range, quick charges & the country to get into the 21st century with power generating & distribution. Tesla opening their fast chargers to all is also a good step forward.

Button and the actual "adaptive mode." But the suspension itself still still will adjust between comfort and sport modes. At least that's my understanding.

Earlier in this thread I think some people had posted that they tried the voice commands and they didn't get them to work. My X5 doesn't have the adaptive button, but the voice command does work using "change to adaptive mode". Others without the button should try the voice command using different variances of the wording in their Z4.

As I said earlier, when I tried it said “that option is not available on your car” or something like that.

Perhaps you should try stating the command differently?

I just took delivery of my 2022 M40i yesterday with the Adaptive button in place.
I drove across three states with the car and accumulated some mileage. I can say for sure that the Adaptive button makes a big difference all around - and especially in the fuel economy department. In Adaptive Mode driving normally (I drive pretty aggressively but I’m not a floor-it redline driver - and not while the car is being broken in), I saw 29 mph on the highway consistently. When in Sport Individual configured to my preferences, fuel economy was around 25. I didn’t drive any differently. I wouldn’t own a BMW without Adaptive Mode if the model had Adaptive Mode and then dropped it. Placebo effect or not - Adaptive Mode makes a difference and SHOULD NOT have been deleted. |

My current bmw has econ, comfort, sport and sport plus all changed with a single toggle. I’ve been perfectly happy with that. With the removal of this “adaptive” mode in the 2023 will I basically get a car with modes like I currently have or am I stepping backwards somehow?

As you said, it's not a big deal to poke a button to change the modes when you want. Same discussion over on the G05/G06 board. The Adaptive button went away on the 2022 X5s. I have a 2022 and I'm Ok with it. Gerry

You can use the CID to check whether ADAPTIVE MODE is present in your Z4.
sorry for japanese. If there is no adaptive button on the driving experience switch, then the adaptive mode would not work. But if it could be voice-activated, it would work. Last edited by yo4; 03-07-2023 at 12:25 AM.. |

Must be chips
After reading all of these posts on this subject I would bet that adaptive mode connects the suspension adjustment module to the GPS module which reads the road and makes instantaneous adjustments to the car. This mode likely takes more computing power than using either "sport" or "comfort" and therefore requires another module or more chips.

So can someone clear this up…….
Is adaptive suspension still on the Z4? Since the button is gone, does it now function passively based on specific roads, speed, acceleration, etc.. Forgive me if this has already been definatively answered in the thread. I tried figuring it out but starting glazing over after the 20th multi paragraph post
