Or does pulling stick left JUST engage manual shifting mode
In comfort it puts you into Sport when pushed left. A more aggressive shift logic. If you move it right it returns to comfort. If you pull a paddle in Sport it locks you into manual. If you push it right from either setting it reverts to comfort. If you pull a paddle in Comfort it goes into manual but will automaticlly revert to Comfort as you relax pedal pressure.

Yeah there is no logic in manual as its no longer a full automatic. Its holding the RPM & will only shift to the next gear when you hit the paddles.

If you neglect to shift up when the red line is hit the engine pulls power. Depending on the car it can be pretty sudden & smack you into the seat belts.

Nice M3/4 feature for us old farts who forget to shift on occasion the seat belts pull tenson when you start the car so you don't lunge forward taking up the slack when the power quits.

My general personal settings are sport+ city & country roads, adaptive for interstate & limited access roads.

Don't switch off traction control off very often. Have found at a number of events am quicker with it on. Lost a 1,2,3 sweep in the time measured events at driving school when I over drifted on the last turn of the Rat race event.

Also took out about 15 cones at one of the PCD's when I screwed up a corner with a 440 & went off the course backwards

Should say:

"Yeah there is no logic in manual as its no longer a full automatic."

Yes, I just installed the Dinan unit and am very happy with it. The main reason is I hate, truly hate the fake exhaust burbles in Sport+ and in Sport. Now I have the individual Sport mode engine parameter in Comfort (no burbles) and trimmed the Dinan for a sport+ throttle response, so much better. Too bad that the burbles can't be programmed out, I leave that to the 20+ folks to impress girls with an artificial overrun noise.

The very first mod I made was to buy Bimmercode and turn off ASD. It leaves any burbles as real ones from the engine, which are fairly subtle with the s30i compared to the 6.
