We have a 2022 X5 40i which is equipped with ID7. I've got a profile set up in My BMW. All is good. Some time ago, I coded "Add 5 blinks to the one-touch blinker options in iDrive" and set it so we get 5 blinks when using the one-touch.

Picked up the new Z4 last week . While doing the setup I was able to add it to My BMW. When you do this it imports your profile if you already have one (which we do). Didn't notice anything specific, but everything was working and we headed out on our return trip from the PC.

Driving down the highway, I hit the blinker to change lanes and noticed I've got 5 blinks. Looked at the settings in iDrive and there is only the options for 1 and 3 with 3 checked. So apparently the setting for 5 was imported from my profile settings in the X5.

There are no bugs in software, only undocumented features.

You get 5 blinks in the Z4 with a coding entry. Like BimmerCode. Your carry over from the X5 just over-wrote (coded) the setting

That’s interesting behavior and may answer my dilemma.

I applied the Automatic Window app on my 2023 Z4 M40i to go down when I arrive at home. That worked fine, but then when I drive my wife’s 2020 330i it also put the window down when arriving home. The 330i somehow adopted this setting from the Z4. Perhaps this Profile behavior is the explanation. Not desirable in this case though since I don’t want this on the 330i, just the Z4.

Wonder if there is a way to resolve this issue?

I get that. The part that's interesting is that you need Bimmercode to code the iDrive menu item that lets you select 5 blinks. But this changed the selection without the menu item being present.

What I'm curious about is if you could enable 5 blinks using voice commands without the iDrive menu being coded.

I think you can just change it in one car. I don't think it constantly syncs the settings between the cars. The text on the iDrive screen when adding the car to the My BMW App recognized the existing profile and gave you the option (via check box) to copy the settings over or to not copy them. And it was a rather confusingly worded description. I just did what the delivery Genius told me to do. His comment was something like; let it copy settings, it'll save you time. So I think it's just a one-time transfer at setup.

I expect I'll be playing with the settings over the next couple weeks. We'll see what happens.

It does appear that it is a one-time transfer of settings at setup of the profile in MyBMW.

I tried some changing a couple settings that were copied over from the X5 to the Z4. The new changes in the X5 were not copied to the Z4 and changes in the Z4 didn't copy to the X5.

Have you tried turning on the AutoWindows App in the Z4 and see its behavior in your other BMW with iDrive7. That is my issue.

No. I don’t have any need for it.

Since it appears to be an issue with apps, I’ll see if there’s one I can use as a test case.

I had the issue pop up with the Climate Rules app. Had the seats set to max cool when the temp is over 80 deg. After I got the Z4, it would only reset in the app to lowest cool setting (Z4 doesn't have cooling, so there's an odd conflict there.)

Finally went in to my Profile settings on both cars and unchecked the "Sync profile..."

After doing that, changes in one car don't try to replicate in the other. The X5 Climate rule stays on max.

Where did you change these Sync settings. In each car or in the app online? I cant find any setting like that online.

In the cars. Select your Profile under Profiles in iDrive. Then select the 'Settings' button on the top of the right side menu.

In settings there is a check box to Synchronize Profiles across your vehicles. Uncheck it. I did it on both my cars.

Thanks for the tip. I deselected Sync in both cars and now the Z4 M40i properly handles the AutoWindow app lowering driver window as I enter my garage. And now my wife’s 330i is not affected.
