Good idea for BMW to copy

Figured I’d post this here, as I thought it was kind of cool. Wish BMW would do something similar with their software updates. Be nice to have a little more configuration options for the gauges (that and add red as a color for ambient lighting).

I agree that having some of this classic analog displays would be a nice addition to our driving experience.

Yep, I agree. But I'm afraid ID 7 is DEAD to BMW. If you want more options, just pony up $100k for a new M why don't you....

I saw that yesterday and was thinking the same thing. I suppose the Z4 customer base is too small for BMW to consider it. Or for an aftermarket option somehow t crack the software for it.

Current gauges are fine, but having options would certainly be cool! I'd be willing to pay for the right alternate.

Other cars still run ID7 (2 Gran Coupe, X3, X4 and 8 series), but agree it’s dead at this point as far as new features. Would be nice to see in the future though on newer releases/versions.

Could be a great aftermarket business for the programmer types out there. I’d pay up it.

Years ago had a 2005 Pontiac GTO. There was a forum member who would go around the country to different meets and reprogram the gauge cluster with Holden Monaro graphics and features for like $100 per car. He made a good bit of money learning to code them. Easy couple grand at least per weekend.

That’s cool and exactly what we need. Let’s start recruiting!

BTW we have a guy at one of our local shows who went full Holden conversion with a white one. Looks great. Left hand drive always gives it away!

That’s awesome! I vastly preferred the Holden look then what we ended up with.

I agree it would be nice to have more dash options. Wouldn’t Bimmercode be a candidate to lobby for these options or perhaps they are limited due to BMW code.

My previous vehicle with the Mazda entertainment system, allowed changes to the UI via a usb. Essentially, access to the base interfaces programmed through a web-page-like file system.

If you knew what you were doing, you could make some decent changes. However, too many people bricked the system.

There were various firmware upgrades offered (upgradeable by USB). One of them essentially prevented upgrades or changes via USB.

That was a fairly simple entertainment system. I can't imagine the headaches for a vehicle as complex as a BMW. People/programmers are generally terrible at UI design, these days, and it's getting worse.

While the BMW design is not to some peoples liking, it's actually a very good UI with some subtle cues that make it very user friendly.
