Instrument clusterf...

I just placed an order for a new Z4 with all the options including the Handschalter manual.

While excited to get this car - probably late summer - I agree with others in that I really dislike the digital speedometer and tachometer. Maybe cover it up with cardboard or matte ppf or something.

Can anyone on this list code a software fix for this?

(Sorry, just saw another recent thread on the cluster. Should have combined them and I can't figure out how to delete my thread)

If you have the HUD, you will not need to look at the instrument cluster as much lol

This is the problem with quick evolving tech, in a short amount of years the cool looking graphics will look dated.

Side note, wife recently got an Infiniti QX80, it’s a 2022 with a nice looking mostly analog gauge cluster. It gets bashed in reviews for not “having a full digital cluster”….I actually appreciate the dated analog gauges on it, it will age better then a digital cluster imo.

Turn on Reduced Mode in the instrument cluster display settings. Looks a lot more subtle & refined, less tacky/flashy.

That pic is at 0mph so nothing on the speedometer, but on the tach you can see the white bar+marker for his RPM at idle. The cruise control + excess speed markers will still show up on the reduced speedometer.

The coolant temp & fuel gauges do show when cold & low, respectively - low being under 50 miles for fuel. And if you hit the BC button on the left stalk, it'll pop back into non-reduced mode for 10 seconds and show everything.

If you want *really* reduced, you can also turn off the center map in the instrument cluster display settings: https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...3&postcount=37

I found the display to be excessively busy and difficult when I first saw it, but in practice I actually found things easy to find and read.

But as noted, the hud gives you the essentials, though. I wish the tach bar was bigger in sport mode, but it works well.

I wish that we had the tach bar from the M cars in our HUD where they show you the RPM’s.

The configuration I gave my dealer doesn't have the HUD. I didn't care about anything else the Premium package would give plus it needed the driving Assistance package as well, I guess for the parking connection between the two.

Nice to know there will be some options for the display. I suppose I'll eventually go through all the options and see which I like best. Definitely would be cool to design my own layout! I'm a sucker for data but I'm sure it can end up being too much at times.

I actually miss the ID7 cluster. I think it was better looking than what ID8.x is.

One of the hidden features on the HUD bar tach is when the engine is cold both the yellow & red sections move to a lower RPM setting. They progressively move higher as the oil warms up.

Congrats on the order for a handshalter!

I really like your Speedo/tach solution of using cardboard. I can take a pic of my F87 analog dash cluster, send it to you and you can print off a color copy and stick it on the cardboard. What speed and rpm do you want it showing?!
