You have to realize that the US has 330 million people and is geographically massive. Americans are extremely well traveled even if 40% don’t have a passport. There are Americans traveling every inch of the world at any given time. In Europe a passport is a necessity because the countries are so small. You can jump on a train and be in France in an hour. For Americans, it’s a 10 hour flight to anywhere interesting, and $1500 in airfare. That’s a huge barrier for many people.

Yes, I have visited - East coast, West coast even a little in between plus the 50th state too.

I have also had the pleasure of meeting military personnel stationed here. They certainly make the most of exploring Europe during their stay.

This is Malta...

Those of us living in the US and Canada definitely have it good. When you travel to Europe, South America, Europe, and Asia, it opens your eyes to how people live and the income disparity. Violent crime and kidnapping over there is real if you are wealthy. Bulletproof cars and security guards are normal. I visit the Phillipines every few years and I love it there but you need to be aware. You walk through metal detectors with armed guards upon entering a mall and there are no garbage cans in the mall (bomb threat). Home subdivisions have gates with armed guards. Cars get stopped for a bomb search before arriving at hotel doors. It's all normal stuff once you live there long enough. I love traveling the world but always feels good to come home to Cali. It makes me feel lucky for what I have and the freedom of movement.

We had armored suburbans and a couple Toyota SUVs when I was in Iraq, but mostly rolled in Humvees the first tour and MRAPs the 2nd. Any time we patrolled a marketplace or something I tried to keep in mind that whatever was normal to them was very different from what we might consider normal, so I'd watch people's body language more than specific surroundings. People start moving away / rounding up the kids running around = danger close. People are relaxed and trying to sell you shit, eating their food and ignoring you, etc, then maybe no danger but that's about as "safe" as it got - we still had grenades thrown at us, sniper fire, etc. To the people who lived there, that was just normal every day life.

I also spent time in South Korea, Ireland, Germany, Kuwait, Louisiana, Texas, South Carolina, Maryland, Arizona, and Southern California. Arizona was probably the most interesting in the context of this thread, because we got straight up told as part of our safety briefing that "on occasion, cartels / smugglers / mules / illegal immigrants may wander through the base training areas not realizing they're on a military installation. Do not engage, report it in immediately, they are often better armed and in larger numbers than you are."

Now imagine - if the base personnel are being told that, wtf do you think the local populace has to put up with? AZ isn't all just Lake Havasu parties. El Paso was pretty sketchy at times too for that matter. Austin was fine though.

South Korea I had to pull riot duty a few times. We'd reinforce the base and lock it down with a ton of Korean cops with wooden katanas and shields, and then have our own US QRF in full riot gear behind them. Funny thing is the rioters would show up just as heavily geared up and ready to go, there'd be some clashes and protests, then everyone would get on a bus and go home at the end of the day. It was surprisingly well organized chaos. I look at the Hong Kong protests now and I'm glad I don't have to be on either side of that one.

You have pretty much rolled the rest of the world together there! Europe (so good you listed twice), South America and Asia are all massively different. Even countries in Europe are very different from one another.

Bulletproof cars are normal. Where exactly?

One measure to consider is the intentional homicide rate per 100,000.

This ranges from zero to 52, with El Salvador being the worst.

San Marino 0.00
Australia 0.89
Greece 0.94
Germany 0.95
UK 1.20
France 1.20
Canada 1.76
Iran 2.47
USA 4.96
Argentina 5.32
Puerto Rico 21.09

Still feel safe?

I live just quarter of a mile from the site where a B17 crashed when taking off in 1945 and all of the crew perished. I would urge Americans who have the means, to come and visit the parts of the world that those guys and many others like them, gave their lives fighting for.

LOL, are you serious? Did you not see the homicide rate image earlier this thread? Europe and Asia are much much safer places than the US. I feel a lot more unsafe when I'm in the US than in 90% of the countries in Europe

Homicide rates are some of the highest per capita (visualized below as per 100,000 people) in the part of the world where the OP resides.
And we are worried about saving livings from the COVID19...

The US is a geographically large area and crime is primarily happening in dense, inner cities. Once you are out of that environment, crime in a non-factor. I work in NYC (pretty safe for a city, at least in business districts) but commute home to an area where a homicide in unheard of.

I would still like to know what suspension modifications were made to compensate for the added weight.

Actually i'm on my third armored BMW.

2014 320i Sport GP F30
2018 320i Sport F30
2020 320i M Sport G20

In the big cities here, it's kind of common to ser armored cars.

Unfortunately, it's a reality here in Brasil.

Non
crazy right?

This car suspension is kinda over-engineered

200kg of extra weight is like there always 3 extra people in the car

so suspension maintenance or change is more frequented

but also brazilian road is terrible , good thing is thar f34 is a little bit higher then f30 , i had an armored f30 had it suffers a lot
.

It's his home. Why do you live where you do? No region is perfect, and some pose more challenges than others, but people adapt to their circumstances.
