Modifications?!?!

Hey fellow board members I have a question again!

I just purchased my E92 335xi and I love the car so much. It was stock as it came from the dealer. I have only placed some spacers on some 220's and got the Cobb running Aggressive Stage 1 Stock Throttle. Going in for tint this Friday and I picked up Dinan Springs for a modest half inch drop.

I really want to get an intercooler that will help me run a stronger PSI map and go for a Pro Tune with the boys at Bren Tuning. Not sure if Intake and exhaust is worth much on these cars but I did feel a difference on my E90 328. I plan to keep the car for a few years and trade in for the F80 M4 so not looking to go nuts as it will be returned back to stock at some point.

For this reason I may go with Dinan intake if any as it looks better to BMW dealers at trade in. Question is what intercooler to purchase????? There are so many options and some require bumper modifications etc.....

I would rather not do this but don't wanna spend 500-700 dollars on something that is pretty much as good as my OEM intercooler.

I would do the intercooler and exhaust, and get a drop in filter such as AFE's or HP Auto's offering

What brand intercooler? I see some are 5" or 7". Are 5" even showing improvements?!!!

If you don't want to trim your bumper I'd go with one of our 5" stepped units

If you're planning on going full bolt on in the future, the 7" will be your best bet to keep intake temps down. We also sell a dual cone intake, chargepipe, downpipes and a few other goodies

There is a shop near me that may be able to do the install with trimming and if so I will order the 7" IC. Then I can run a stronger map on the Cobb AP!!!!

Thanks....now I know the three things I must have....7" FMIC, Downpipes, Exhaust, Chargepipe, at least an upgraded air filter and a Pro Tune from Bren....wait thats more than three and the budget I have....ugh

7" FMIC - Awesome, but probably not necessary yet.

Downpipe(s) - Definitely do this. After a tune, this will be largest power gain.

Catback Exhaust - We all love sound, but gains are negligible.

Chargepipe - Your OEM one will likely crack with higher boost. This should be one of the first things you replace. More of a safety thing, than anything.

Intake - Sounds cool; gains are negligible.

This is what you need: DCI, VRSF DP, CP, and IC, Brentune. Get the tune last.

At the very least DCI, downpipes, OTS Cobb tune. You will heatsoak the IC on long pulls but you can fix that later, or not fix it and spray meth.

Don't mess with a exhaust, waste of money until everything else is done.

Agreed, quality product at a very fair price and local to boot.

I would order the whole set up for the E90 but the wife never uses the car like it was designed. Sometimes I wonder if I should have bought her a 325xi.

You want the OEM c-clip. The other option depends on whether or not you want to replace the OEM diverter valves with a blow off valve.

Just got off phone with BMW dealership.....wastgate/turbos have not been serviced by previous owner and are starting to rattle upon starting the car!

Don't freak out too much, this is a common issue and there are tons of threads to look through regarding symptoms and fixes.

I think my e92 N55 is starting to have the same symptoms, gotta get it checked out.

Facotry DV leak sometimes at stock boost levels, often leak at higher stock boost levels. I'm actually kind of amazed the E90s have held 18PSI for a year now.

The Factory CP is known to crack as well. Upgrading to a Aftermarket CP with BOV fixes the issues completely. I have heard of the forge needing to be rebuilt over time where a quality Tial BOV shouldn't.
