DIY Heated steering wheel
Hey. Has anyone ever tried to remove the leather cover off the steering wheel? I was thinking about removing it and adding some 12V heaters used on motorcycle handlebars. I was then going to restitch the cover. Anyone have some advice?

How would you add the wiring to the clockspring?

From this discussion, http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=501185, it seems like there is a clock spring with 12 pins and one with 6. Not sure which I have, 2012 E92 AT. If I have the 6 I could get the new clock spring and be on my way. The other thing is there might be 12V power already up there. I was hoping someone with more familiarity would be able to chime in.

Heated steering wheel and heated seats is all you need. No need for heat in the car when you got those two on. If you go through with this please do a diy. I am curious how the leather would behave after removal. |

Yea that is the part I'm worried about. I was also thinking I could just reuse one of the functions on the steering wheel. I can't remember the last time I hit the voice control, phone, recirculate, or media buttons. Volume and the select buttons are all I need. So replace that pin with 12V fused off of ignition and wire the button to actuate a lating relay. I am looking into the carbon fiber heater material as that looks promising a pretty cheap. If I do this I will definitely make a diy.
