Question about the power moonroof

I have a week 38 production car locked in.........
-LBB
-6MT
-Exec package
-Apple car play
-M perf package

Now, the million $ question......... I found out today the 'moonroof' is available for the 2018 model. Please excuse me if this has been addressed in another thread, but I haven't been on here since last summer, when I passed up the M2 for the Camaro 2SS, deciding to wait on the 2018 and the LCI.
I remember reading last year how the 2017's had the sunroof option in Canada and europe and know we couldn't get them here in the U.S.
When I asked the dealer today about the nature of this so called moonroof, he described it as a power sliding roof for $1050 extra.

Isn't that essentially a sunroof? If not, what's the difference from the 2017 Euro models and Canadian models have?

Anyone else here getting it? I'm coming from a vert and am leaning towards getting it. If it was a pure track car, I would go sans moonroof, but it will maybe see one track weekend per year, and a few auto cross events per year.

I'm spec'd mine with it. It's a moonroof as in glass powered roof that tilts/slides

Moonroof and sunroof are used interchangeably these days. It is a glass roof section that will open like the cars that call it a sunroof. Not nearly a substitute for a convertible. Personally I think they are useless but I have friends that use them and love them. I prefer less weight up high and all the headroom I can get. If you plan on tracking the car headroom might be an issue for you if your tall. I am 6' and in my car without a moon/sunroof my head touches the headliner when I wear a helmet, I am not sure I would be able to track one if it had less headroom. Something to consider.

Garage List
2018 BMW M2  [9.50]
If you are concerned about fitment, find a 2-series with a moonroof. Same interior dimensions.

It is usually suggested to add 30-40 pounds, not kilograms. So lets say 15 kg.

Test drove a 240i with moonroof. At 6'2" I had about 2 inches clearance (being generous) and my head was bouncing off the ceiling every time I hit a bump or scooted up to readjust myself. My fiance had her claustrophobia kicking in just looking at me.

Every car I've owned has had a sunroof (going on 20 years now). And when I really thought about it I could probably count on 2 hands and 2 feet the amount of times I've ever opened it.

The M2 will be my first car sans sun roof.

Agreed, it's no substitute for a vert, but my thinking is that it will be nice to open on days when I want a little extra breeze/sunshine to come in.........but even more than that, to allow more noise from that MPE to come inside the cabin ; )

I'm not tall-- only 5'9", so it shouldn't be an issue when I do autocross.

I'm 5'9" also and have no trouble with moonroofs. I'm glad BMW in the U.S. finally decided to give people a choice.

So will this be the same moonroof/sunroof that they made available on the 2017 Euro and Canadian models?
