HELP - Front Diff Issues F30 - VIDEO
Noticed a hum from the front end early last week. Especially noticeable on decelerations. Mid week noticed a oil leak had developed. Got the car in the air yesterday to see a coating of oil on much of the driverside only in the area of the diff.
Clean the area up and change out the fluid. The spent oil had a shitload of metal in it, very fine. Drive 10 miles and let the car sit to try to spot where the leak is. Appears as though it is coming from the output flange to the driveshaft. I'm guessing that its being whipped out when driving explaining the driverside having oil everywhere and the passenger clean. Questions: Is there a serviceable seal there ? Is the amount of play seen in the video normal ? the play is NOT coming from the u joint. |

Might be needing some new bearings there, low lubrication + moving parts = shaved metal .
Even though the play in that part is small, its still concerning. |
