Yeah, it's too bad that most of the tests and comparisons are using the 340hp euro Z4. OTOH, 0.1 behind a Porsche Boxster GTS that costs 50% more is pretty impressive. I'm sure the 382hp NA spec Z4 would have beaten it.

The Boxster got a bad launch and was able to pull ahead so even if they used a US spec M40i, with a proper launch the Boxster should still be ahead. Also, none of these cars were designed for drag races. I'd be more interested in a track times like Nurburgring, which I bet the Boxster would have an advantage.

I love the Boxster; I almost bought one.....but the Z4 has a better engine with better sound and more power. No it isn't going to handle as good as a Boxster but it is much closer than I expected. The looks and 40% price advantage sealed the deal for me but I still like the Boxster as well. As far as the Nuburgring is concerned, the M40i has already produced a very impressive 7:55 run. works for me. Dave |

I honestly dont understand why the GTS is routinely measured against the M40i. The price difference is 'significant' for any sort of apples to apples config. Where should we be drawing a line in terms of what seems to be a competitive option? If the boxster was literally twice as expensive, would it get the same comparisons? Three times as expensive? I just dont get the repetitive story of "oh, well, we compared the Z4 to this $100k+ version of a boxster and it came up short - particularly if they arent going to measure against the strongest in the line (US spec).

Fact is ... people are actually rather used to BMWs being able to punch well above their weight. 1M vs Cayman R vs TTRS and or NISMO 370 were all the rage for the 1M intro. The disappointment here is that the Z4 M40i isn't BMWs best effort possible. BMW doesn't have an Z4M or Z4M Competition to offer |

Car wow reviews are getting better towards bmw
Gts is way more expensive and more of a racier car then z4. Z4 is way more comfortable and sounds better. Look wise it's subjective. I'll just say Audi is a chic car, Porsche and bmw are awesome looking

The excuses are really flowing. Everybody knows the Boxster GTS is both quicker, faster, and better handling. Yes, it is more expensive, but they are in the same segment...so stop your crying. They have very different missions, so just be happy they both even exist in this current crossover world.

As far as the subject at hand (1/4 mile times); The Boxster PDK has a 200 - 300 lb weight advantage and the Z4 (NA spec) has a 17hp advantage over the GTS and a 32hp advantage over the Boxster S......but the Z4 also has a 52/60 ft lb torque advantage.
.....I imagine the two cars are going to be very close but I certainly wouldn't call it yet. Having the lower output M40i get within 0.1 sec of the highest output Boxster is impressive from where I sit. Dave |
