Stock Air Box vs Air Intake with IAT Datalogs

This was done driving around town to offer real world driving data. Towards the end of the drive I did a WOT pull on each log. I also parked the car and let it idle for an extended period of time.

The stock airbox was driven at 70° ambient. The intake was done at 75° ambient.

Mods: FTP turbo inlet. Treadstone Chargepipes. Gplus FMIC. Oil Catch can.

Run time is at the bottom in minutes.

Conclusion....in my opinion an air intake is NOT as detrimental to IAT as people seem to think.

As mentioned on the FB group, the fact that you have a larger FMIC might be covering up the extremes that might be seen with a stock FMIC. Regardless, thanks for testing, data is always helpful and informative.

I think it's kind of interesting that the second forum members ask about an air intake, all of these "forum engineers" come out of the woodwork with their opinions on "hot air intakes"...but now....*crickets*

I understand that gains on an air intake should he very minimal. it's more for sound and aesthetic than anything...just like an axle back exhaust. but I never see anyone hating on/arguing about whether you should get an axle back or not.

You've proven me and others largely incorrect with this, I must admit. I would've assumed the IATs would have been much higher, but apparently not. Thanks for posting some data, definitely interesting results.

Thanks rjdnyy224! I felt like it was such a debated topic I wanted to test it.

One thing I failed to mention in my mod list though, for full disclosure, was that I heat wrapped my IC to TB chargepipe and the air intake piping with the DEI reflectagold.

You guys may have seen my post with the temperature gun. After seeing how hot the overall piping got I decided to pull the trigger on, IMO, a kind of ricey mod. But if it works, it works!

it'd be great if you could validate the results further with a hp/tq gain and if the acceleration is improved.

I'll be going in for before and after dyno in a month or so for my downpipe with high flow cat that I'm building. If time permits then I may try and do that.
