Would this engine air filter have caused damage?

Hi everybody,
I'm new to doing my own maintenance on my 2014 328i and was putting in a new engine air filter and noticed that when I took my old one out it was dented in some places (no holes or tears).

My main concern is the plastic strip that runs horizontally across the filter was detached from the edges (the new one is attached) I've included pictures for reference.

My question is would this have caused any damage to the engine over time?

Those strips are there just to keep the folds of the filter with even spacing. No need to worry about couple of them being detached.
