G'Day 2008 323i,
Generally it will be a break down of the oil - if it's the wrong type of more importantly, is it too viscous... Fritzables. |

Yes like you said, faulty parts could cause it.. either the synchro itself or something else breaking apart and shredding stuff up
other thoughts.. improper lubrication.. wrong oil type, not enough oil, didn't change oil often enough.. but really i think the most likely cause is user error/stupidity... bad rev matching, not pressing the clutch in all the way during shifts, 'power shifting' |

item
the car is only 12month old and has 9700km
I don't bag the shit out of the car I also have owned 30 standard car and have never had a tranny problem or had to replace a clutch I thought the purpuse of the syncro is that we don't need to rev match?????? |

Seeing that's it's a relatively new car then I can't assume it's a lubrication issue but more to be a component problem.
Yes, that is correct - the idea of the syncro ring is to be able to shift gears without the need to double-clutch. |
