Running Xdrive suspension on a RWD car
OK I know it's a bad idea already, and I should just do it the "right way". BUT is it possible to run Xdrive struts on a RWD front subframe somehow? I have a set of new looking Bilstein B6 struts that came on my Xi wagon. I'm switching it to RWD with a front subframe swap (dealing with the mounting of the trans is a separate issue I'm aware of)
The awd struts are shorter than the rwd struts because the whole knuckle is steel and totally different. I'm wondering if there is a something like a truck leveling kit where there is a spacer that mounts to the top of the strut that spaces it down 2" or so from the underside of the strut mount on the car. I'm trying to figure out if strut tops are somewhat universal? I know, it's a bad idea, I'm going to list the struts for sale to try and cover the cost of some new suspension but lately all my extra parts are just sitting and not moving. Can't give away this N52 engine and trans. I'm over budget on some of my other parts that I splurged on (M3 control arms, relocated inlets etc...) and the goal is to use donor sell off part money to fund new parts. I could re-use the struts from the sedan, they're pretty tired though. Is there a way to do this without buying stuff that isn't obvious to me yet? Use the 4wd front spindle.
Disassemble the axle and just put the splined stubout/cup in to secure the bearing. I think the control arms and mounting points are the same... but somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I assumed the mounting points are different but I don't know. It's all steel so I assumed the geometry was different as they are shaped so different. I have M3 arms here and both the front subframes here so I can compare if I don't find another solution. The axles didn't want to come out from the knuckles so I'll look closer at what can come apart from the backside of the axle to keep the wheel bearing in place.

Even better since those are designed for lowering springs. I'm interested in buying them off of you if you want to get rid of them.
