G31 rear suspension issues

Hi

I've read a few threads about this but none with my specific issue. First off a warning came on the dash "chassis function disabled" which would then lower rear suspension on both sides to the bump stops. It would reset after switching on and off and work fine for a while but then starting happening more often and eventually wouldn't reset.

I've had a new compressor fitted and it raised the car up but one rear arch is 50mm above tyre and the other side is 25mm above tyre. Also when driving the 25mm side lowers to the bottom again but resets after engine restart.

Mechanic checked all the air suspension for leaks and there wasn't any so struggling for what else it could be? TIA

Ride height sensor is probably faulty on one side.

Or ride height was not reset properly per ISTA.

Or your VDP module is faulty Or the VDP coding is gone bad.

You need someone with ISTA who knows how to check voltage readings from all sensors at standstill and when driving.

Thanks for the info. So far a bmw specialist has tried changing the readings on the sensor to trick the car into being level but it just keeps overriding it and going lobsided. The next thing to try is replacing the sensors!

Try recoding the VDP module first. I changed all sorts of sensors to eventually find the VDP module code was corrupted. After a fresh format and recode not an issue since.

Also as all sensors run via the ACSM unit format and recode it at same time.

Thanks. I believe the VDP coding is cheaper to do than changing both the sensors so I will see if they can try that first.

Sometimes the car is level and drives fine without the error on the dash which makes me think this wouldn't be possible with faulty sensors.

I'll post the update on here once sorted in case anyone else has same issue.

Further to this, finally seemed to have resolved the problem by getting a replacement valve block fitted. One came new with the replacement compressor but must have been faulty!

Sorry to bump an old thread but I got the Chassis function restricted message on my 2018 G31 today. The rear suspension dropped right down to the bump stops and i have not been able to get it to raise again.

I plugged in my Autel diagnostic tablet and it stated that the front right level sensor is faulty, would this cause the rear suspension to drop?

I tried to raise the rear using the function tests on the Autel with no success.

Does anyone have any ideas?
