what do you guys do with rock chips?

I have a few little rock chips already after 1 month. and want to know what you suggest to fix it without expensive repaint. Maybe wetsanding and touch up paint? will it come out perfect? I thought about clear bra but don't like the line across the hood.

Its just part of life, every car gets them. I got the clear bra, rather than see the rock chips, you see a line up close. I think I rather see the line than a bunch of rock chips. You can try touch-up paint.
I know a guy that does a perfect install on the clear bra, if you decide to get one, let me know.

Pics would help. How big are they and where exactly on the car? I've had some success with touchup paint and wetsand, then buff/polish and seal. TiAG shouldn't be difficult to match/blend with a DIY repair.

I do the touchup/wetsand/polish method, but it's a pain in the butt.

If you really want to torture yourself repairing rock chips for the next few years, you can try the AutoSharp pen:
http://www.autosharppen.com/

But If I were you, I'd worry less about the line on the hood and more about the nice set of freckles your car hood's going to get instead.

They are just tiny chips. I only see them because I cleaned it up close. U cant really see them if u stand up straight. One on front hood, one on bumper and one on side hood, and two on mirror. I never done wetsand before. what are the step by step instructions? what tools do i need?

It is not worth wet-sanding your car's brand new paint over tiny rock chips.

I've got a few. They're painful on a black car. But so far, I'm just living with them. The pain goes away after about a week. Then you notice another one.

Someone needs to come up with some paint that withstands rockchips.

Check out Langka

I don't have any personal experience with this product but have talked with others who have used it successfully.http://www.langka.com/. BTW, I would rather see a line on my hood from a Clear Bra than paint chips

just get the bmw paint, fill in the chips with a toothpick or other fine tip device...put a dab of the supplied clear over it, and call it a day. Its not perfect, but it cant be seen unless you are close up and it does the job of keeping it from getting bigger and eventually rusting.

I believe the newer MB Ceramiclear was an attempt to keep chips to a minimum. The marketing hype says there are tiny ceramic filaments in the clear to harden it up.

#1 costs, and #2 limited benefits because most of the chips happen on the front end of the car...

You CAN get the hole hood covered if you want.

i should think those with 40k cars should be able to afford the extra 100$ or so to get the rest of the hood covered (what is it 300 for front half hood and side mirrors)

and im not talking about for rock chips but so that line is not there on the hood

do you have the film? ive done it before and while it's somewhat "invisible" it definetely degrades the gloss of the paint and as you know, without doing the entire hood, the seam line is visible. Now I do understand the benefits and think they work great, if you are willing to live with its negatives. If one continues with your logic, then you should just get the entire car done...whats another few hundred while youre at it. Keep the plastic on your bed matress and sofa too. The install of this film is a PIA, and doing the long E90 hood would be $$$ due to labor IMO.

Just because we can buy a 40k car, doesnt mean we cant make rational decisions. To some, $500 to do just the front bumper and a third of the hood is a big deal. It is to me, and Id rather not do it at that price. Increase the price to do the full hood and it makes the deal less attractive.

I got uncountable number of rock chips on the front bumper and quite a few on the hood. I touch up those on the hood (or anywhere else that's metal) and ignore those on the bumper. Part of life.

But I swear I'd put on a clear bra on the front bumper and whole hood for my next car.
