brake pad opinions?

what do you all think of the wagner or duralast brake pads?

i am on a real tight budget and dont want to spend alot and the new pads and them not cure my squeaky problem.

I would go for higher quality aftermarkets such as EBC red pads or posiQuiet or Hawk. One issue I encountered is that in some of the aftermarket pads the cut out for sensor is poorly notched, and sensor will get dislodged. The squeak is primarily due to glazing of pad surfaces, but it may be attributable to rotor surface irregularities. Drive gently initially after pad replacement for about 500-600 miles then bed it. Read on DIY's posted by others on pad replacement and bedding procedures. I replaced mine at 18k, with oem rotors w/ EBC reds, could not stand the oem ATE and its high dust generation. Don't have any issues with squeaks and they are velvety smooth and very low dust, unlike the oem ATE pads which are dogs.

Those manufacture may make decent pads for everyday cars and trucks, but they don't belong on your BMW. They may not be of the correct compound or offer the consistent friction and brake torque an oem or oem like pads can offer you.

I agree that oem ATE are the specified brake pads... but what can be done to abate the horrible dust they produce? Don't think they are healthy to the calipers either. PosiQuiet by Centric are specific to the OEM compound, at least this is what they advertise to be.

Had good experience with PBR/Axxis. I had the Ultimates which dusted maybe slightly less than stock but were higher temp and more linear, but they also make the Deluxe which I never tried but would be my first guess at trying something else to replace stock.

The latest OEM Pads (10/2009 onwards) are low dust. They retro fit perfectly.

BTW, for clarification, ATE is the caliper manufacturer - owned by Continental. The Pads are Jurid -owned by Bendix. Some models may have Textar pads.

Thanks for the clarification between ATE, Jurid & Taxtar, which I care less cauz they produce a lot of dust. I just don't agree that newer oem brake pads are low dust, my model is 2009 e93 production date of Sept 2009 and I had my wheels coated with black dust after hardly 100 miles between wheel scrubs, while on my old e46 using Centric PosiQuiet was more like 1,000 miles, and on my e93 w/EBC is about 1,000-2,000 miles. I got my EBC from http://store.zeckhausen.com. This is after the initial 500-600 miles break in period and bed in, normal driving in NJ secondary roads. The e93 front rotor is now 312mm, which is couple of mm larger than the previous production models.

We have installed Cool Carbon Brake pads on many of our customers cars along with our own, and we are very happy with them. Cool Carbon pads are great for daily driving while being able to take it out for track days, while getting less dust.

I've heard nothing but raves about the Cool Carbons and I plan on equipping them when mine OEM are worn.

Cool Carbons

I have Cool Carbons on the rear. I'll be putting them on the front this summer.

Don't put any cheap or no name stuff on your BMW. Brakes are just as important as a healthy running engine. Stick to the brand names recommended in the above posts.

OK..*knock on wood*, I tried the "easy" fix. I tore of all my pads off and gooped the crc brake quiet on them. So far ( 1wk & 200 miles) no squealing. $5 for the brake quiet and $26 for a new sensor as I broke it trying to get it off.
Also no more 0-15mph squeek. We'll see how long this fix lasts. I will definitelygo with good pads when the time comes.
