Zaino vs Klasse is NOT a matter of opinion...

Hey guys, I've noticed that often times on this board we've insisted that the Klasse vs Zaino debate is a matter of subjectivity... that preference determines which is best.

I've come to doubt this... after having used both products (with EXTREME consideration for procedure and detail) on my car, as well as other vehicles I have detailed, Zaino wins hands down.

Zaino:
Easier to apply and remove
Leaves a far more refined and optically clear look
Does a better job on trim
Even smells better!

If your considering which to buy, Zaino period.

...now if I could just figure out what to do with all my left over klasse stuff hehe

Sorry Danforz, but you're wrong. You may like the appearance of Z2pro or Z5pro (or CS) better than SG, but not everyone does. It is also not "better" on trim; they work similarly on trim.

Don't get me wrong, I've said it before and I will say it again, Zaino is great stuff; but there is no such thing as "the best" in detailing, period.

FWIW, anyone comparing Zaino to modern sealants should probably opt for Werkstatt stuff as opposed to Klasse. It's easier to use, better in most regards, and the biggest benefit is it has a real spray sealant.

I use Werkstatt and Zaino on ~95% of the cars I do. Neither is better, they just suit different applications better.

hi kevin hows it going? i respect your opinions on car care a lot so i have a few questions for you. i've been looking forward to doing my spring detail soon and i have klasse aio and sg but have not used them yet. can you tell me what werkstatt and or zaino products i should buy. should i use the aio with the werkstatt and or zaino? can you give me a link for werkstatt products? i want to use the werkstatt because as you say its better in most regards and easier to use. any help would be appreciated. thanks and i hope you are enjoying your 335 now that winta is finally coming to an end.

Picus,

Is it okay, or recommended to use any kind of sealant (specifically Zaino) on the clear plastic housing on the headlamps?

If you have AIO and SG on hand there isn't a whole lot of reason to switch to something else. Werkstatt are just re-formulations that were made to be easier to use. If you use AIO appropriately they are not that difficult. I personally like to apply each a panel at a time, contrary to the directions on the bottles. This is called the "wipe on/wipe off" method, and it's always works well for me. If you have any specific questions on application just shoot me a PM.

The one product I *would* recommend you buy is this: http://www.jeffswerkstatt.com/acrylic-jett-trigger.php

It's a spray version of Acrylic Jett, which is a re-formulation of Klasse SG. It's incredibly easy to use, I use it after a wash - it basically extends your sealant life indefinitely since it's a full blown spray sealant.

Zaino works great on headlights, taillights, windows, trim, chrome, plastic...pretty much everything.

so after a wash i basically just spay the Jett on like a spray on wax and just wipe off?

Yep. Wash, dry, then give one panel a full spray and buff off with a micofiber. You use about half an ounce per application.

I'm willing to travel.

Actually, in SoCal you have two of the best detailers (imo) in the country. Joe from Superior Shine and Patrick from Excel Detail. I'd let either one detail my car.

+1

I get the feeling some of the zaino folks have to believe it's X times better than Klasse simply because of their financial investment in the product.
IMO...Unless you're going to enter the car in competition, 90% of America isn't going to be able to tell the difference whether u used Klasse,Zaino, or Brand X Carnuba wax.

interesting perspective... i, being a zaino user, can see that being the case.
it's like that with a lot of brands and consumer beliefs.

Picus, thanks again for the info.

Picus, I'm not going to debate with a seasoned detailer, I will say this however:

I detailed two 3 series the other day, used Z5Pro on one and SG on the other. There was no comparison in both my opinion as well as the owner. Results on black cars (using both SG and Z5) also has been very convincing for me.

Further more, if I may ask, why do you use Zaino 90% of the time?

Honestly, it could have been all in your head; either that or one car was prepped better and/or in a better condition to begin with. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Zaino fan, but the more I detail, the more I began to realize that the difference between high quality products aren't very big. I doubt I could tell the difference unless I transformed into a dog and smelled the signature Zaino scents.

This is a possibility, though I doubt it. I used the same methods on both, and they were both in moderate condition.

Good paint prep contributes over 90% of the look. The LSP contributes to the remaining bit of how the paint will look. Arguing about the look of Klasse vs Zaino is for hardcore detailers only. Most regular people would nott be able to see a difference.

In terms of Zaino users arguing Z is better because of their financial investment, I have to disagree. Bare bones Zaino (Z2/Z5 and ZAIO) is no more expensive then Bare bones werkstatt or Klasse (AIO and SG). Werkstatt and Zaino can both become more expensive as you add other products (car wases, spray sealants, QD's, etc).

My personal opinion, I like Zaino better. I do notice the look, and like it more than Klasse. Also, I've heard from many long time klasse users that the product suffered for the worse after the VOC reformulation.
