Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat
Looking forward to the drive reviews. As much as I had my mind set of a used x5m f85, I am being pulled towards the American muscle. Always wanted a Hemi- and I plan to visit the gas station every other day lol. |

Man.
Are high performance SUV's my thing? No. Not at all. But 12 years from now when Hellcat Challengers are still worth big money and everyone immediately thinks of the trackhawk when talking about this engine in SUVs, this will be the cheapest way to have 700 horsepower and i will absolutely be here for it. |

I don't know the sales numbers but it's amazing how Dodge & Jeep can keep selling vehicles like the Durango, Grand Cherokee, Charger, Challenger, etc that are 10-13 years old without significant redesigns.

As of 2014, it has the same 8-speed that BMW uses (along with many other manufacturers). (ZF8HP70) Minor exterior redesigns in 2016, 2018, 2020. Shares parts with Jeep Grand Cherokee and Mercedes GL450. There's a lot to like there. |

One word: wow.
Cheaper than an AMG, Cayenne or M of the same performance level. What is the reliability history for the supercharged 6.2L engine? M-B and BMW have (very) sordid pasts with high horsepower V8s. How about the boys and gals from Auburn Hills? |

It's a solid option if you need the space. Motortrend recently did a comparison of the "slow" SRT version against the much newer Explorer ST. The Durango came out on top in most categories. I would expect the Hellcat version to be a pretty nice experience.
I have no need for 3 rows, so I'd go with a Jeep Trackhawk instead. I don't think you can go wrong either way. |

It's pretty much bulletproof. There's just not that much to go wrong. They'll hold 900+whp no problem.

Pluses are the engine and price, minuses are everything else (exterior, interior, chassis, weight, handling, braking, mpg)?

If you want a sports car on stilts, no American SUV will fit the bill. If you realize the sports cars are best suited to cars, but still want some good old American fun, the SRT and Hellcat are good options. I have a GC SRT and an E92 M3. I love them both, even though they're very different vehicle. |

I also wouldn't buy the other Hellcat products for the exact same reason as above, they are great at certain things but behind in others. An M3 and Charger Hellcat are also similar prices and for the buyer looking for the best engine I would say the Hellcat wins.

The motors/trans units are pretty solid. Where FCA in general falls apart is in the electronics integration, particularly infotainment systems.

Trust me, you kind of have to turn a blind eye to the interior and take it for what it is. Its not near BMW or other high end manufacturers, but this isnt a luxury product from them either. Also, the resell value on American SUVs is way better than German models from what I gather. The handling- cant compare to the x5m because this American muscle is just a traffic light to traffic light destroyer. I am glad companies are still making these types of crazy SUVs. I am not expecting this 5000lb Durango to be an agile sports car, I need it to be a 3 row people hauler that also lets me have fun. We all have different needs and wants, but I just wanted to get some views about this Durango hellcat from another perspective. Thank you all for the insight.

It is an outdated and superaged platform, but sharing chasis with the MB and jeep gives me hope. Again, the engine/power is what attracts me to this beast as someone who always wanted an American muscle car but it was never practical. I got to drive my friends trackhawk for a few minutes and instantly forgot about the crappy interior and aged platform as the engine roared and pushed me back into my seat like I have never felt before- and all from an SUV.
If I could convince the wife to let me spend the money, I would go x5m all day but she also doesnt want anything flashy. She wants me to debadge the hellcat logos if we get it just so people will not try to race her at every light. |

Why cant GM put there camero or vette into an escalde/tahoe? That zl1 tahoe compared to the srt durango. They have the engine, just need to engineer it into the big body.

I put a couple hundred miles on the regular NA srt Durango. Fun truck fir what it is. Not horribly slow and had 295’s squared. Best color is black. Leather package and all that stuff is a must. Would probably lease the thing only.
